Nobody needs childish image macros, but it takes a true connoisseur to appreciate the brilliance and art in their subtlety.

Also, I would like to point out that I got a good chuckle reading that post with a large cartoon cannabis leaf for a signature. smile

Not at all. I say this as a fan; A good 60% of Star Trek is absolute toss. I'll re-evaluate that percentage after finishing DS9, but I think it's truth.

I'm a bit of an oddity in that I'm a super big sci-fi fan, but... Don't like sci-fi fans that much. I see people getting married in Starfleet uniforms and romping about in Jedi robes and I just think "God, they're letting the side down." Science fiction is full of such wonderful ideas and often deals with heavy issues in a brilliantly relevant way. Would you think that if all you'd seen was some berk dressed up as a Klingon, shouting garbled "GHHAAAARKAAARGH" language? No, you'd think "What a load of childish toss." Not to pick on Delfi too much, but I can never get behind the idea of disliking something with really clever ideas because "That's wrong, the ship has too many decks/why are there water pipes." (Star Trek 5 is great, btw, sod you.)

I'd recommend you give The Wrath of Khan a go though, as I said, I think it's one of the greatest movies ever made. Doesn't really need any context to enjoy it, other than "Captain Kirk's getting old and nostalgic and sad." If you subtract the science fiction setting, it's really just a submarine/naval war movie with a tearjerking coda about life and death. I could genuinely imagine it being remade as an old timey Hornblower-esque adventure about exiled pirates and hidden treasure.

Honestly, I'm a bigger Doctor Who fan, which tells you a lot.

protip: I don't really work in IT. I'm a finance manager for a used car dealership and I just happen to be the only one here who knows how computers work, so I guess I moonlight as the sysadmin whenever I have time during the day.

It's kind-of neat. Recently, I got tired of having to fix the other three computers we have because people (mainly salespeople) would browse the Internet all day long and download dumb shit and mess them up. So, my computer is the only computer to have unrestricted Internet access. It got pretty funny when, instead of asking me to fix all of the spyware and viruses, people started asking me why they couldn't "browse the whole Internet". I just shrugged my shoulders and chalked it up to a fluke.

My boss figured me out not too long ago, though - and I keep seeing porn show up in my history whenever I leave for lunch or auction or whatever.

I just have so many good image macros.

Also, I don't really care for Star Trek much. I liked whatever series had the Tribbles in it and I've seen quite a few of those, but couldn't really be bothered for much else.

The latest one out in theaters was alright, though. I didn't know what was going on half of the time, but it was entertaining.

It does. It really fucking does.

It's starting to rip into things I hate about Star Trek with a set of sharp teeth. Rodenberry would have hated it, which is good because that man had shit all common sense. Remember he didn't like Wrath of Khan. Wrath of Khan not just being one of the best Trek movies, but also one of the best movies ever, full stop. The man clearly had severe mental issues.

Also, everything good about Trek came from cleverer people than him. Gene L. Coon and Harve Bennet specifically.
