I'm not to sure if this is were to post this exactly, but I need help with a new object I would like to add into Vice City. It will be a bunker placed hopefully around near those guys that were the blue and are near downtown (sorry, but I can't remember the name).

Here are some screenshots: Here

Heres what I need:

1. I need to know how to add this into 'oceandrv' near the bridge. The thing is, I want this to be half underground if possible.

2. Could someone show me how to make alphas? I need to put a 'H' on the roof for the chopper landing and this one is just a temp roof.

3. To anyone who helps, I will put your names in possibly in an easter egg. Same with another one....

I've also got to finish up the outside too.

I don't now much about mapping or such stuff, but I can try to help you with alphas.

This is a texture example:

This is the corresponding alpha map:

An alpha map is basically a grayscale picture which controls the transparence of the picture. White zones in the alpha map appear as solid, black ones are completely transparent, this means they're invisible. Gray areas cause a glass-like effect, or, if the polygons with the alpha mapped texture are directly over other textured polygons, a mixing-of-colors effect. (I used this one for the red-to-yellow colorscheme on my truck, btw).

The alpha map mut be included in the *.tga texture file for zmodeler. This can be done in photoshop (should be possible in any better picture editing software), I just can't really explain what to do 'cause I use the german version.

For your H-problem: I suggest drawing an alpha map with a white "H" on black background, and use this on a dirty white grayish texture.

Okay, how do I make this into a *.tga? If you've already answerd this and I didn't read it in your first post, then sorry.

difficult to explain, because I use the german version of photoshop, but I'll have a try.

First, create a new RGB Image and insert the yellow "H" there. Then, you have to add an alpha channel to this file. In my Photoshop version, there is a small window where you can choose the color channel (RGB, or R or G or B). There should be a button "Add a new channel" somewhere in this window. Click on it, and a new channel called "Alpha1" should be added in your file. Then click on "Alpha1" to view this channel, it should be completely black. Insert the white alpha "H" into this channel, then save this image as a *.tga
Hope this helps you a bit further.

hmm...no...either my photoshop doesn't show it right, or it's rellay wrong...maybe you should open a *.tga file with alpha channel and have a look how it's done there...

Okay well first I opend both files. The white and yellow. Then I went to Arimatic or something. It had 2 dropdown windows with each image in either one. I had 'ADD' clicked in and 'All Channels' click in. Then I just went ok and a white 'H' came up. But if you download the link above, agian tell me if I did it right or if I have to do it agian. It should just be a white image

download mine and have a look at it.
the problem with your file is: you seem to have somehow converted the file from RGB color mode to index (???) color mode...arrggg...maybe I try posting screenshots thats probably easier to understand.

plz wait some minutes!

Okay, I'm finished.

1. Open your *.bmp with the yellow "H".

2. Add a new color channel to the image, it will be called "alpha1" automatically

3. Now open the other file with the white "H". Select it and copy it.
then, watch the yellow H file again, IMPORTANT: make sure you view only the alpha channel of the image, not the RGB channels. Now you can paste the white H into the alpha channel.

4. merge all layers to background, if necessary, and save as 32 bit tga file.

Well I'm using PSP8 not Adobe. I used the help function and couldn't find anything. Damn, this is bugging me but if it's okay with you could I use that alpha? I will try my hardest to learn howto do this

Whoo Hoo! The very first testing of the Bunker was today just a min. or so ago. It looks...meh, so I might just remake it, I have changes anyway. Even with the army after you, you're totaly safe and I feel this is really fun:

In Interstate '82, there is a level with lots of bunkers like that. Just pull up exactly next to the door, and press X to get out and your little guy does a barrel roll out of the car, and is in the buker with the car conveniently protectiing the only way out! Problem is, all you have is a handgun and there is no window. Also, the machine gun fire from the cars outside magically pierces through the wall in some places, so you have to be lucky and quick with the 7 and 9 keys (side roll) to stay alive. Great fun. You can buy I82 now for about $6.00 or less. It's not fully XP compatible, though.

Oh and Inky, could we have an outside view? And how do you get in?
