It's a whole bloody 3D environment with advanced physics and polygon-based models, not sprites and cubes. :] And I personally cannot wait until the team I lead gets our Majera Road Route into Vice and start racing against each other in multiplayer over it, using my simulation handling setups and using Nismo Skylines, Caterham 7's, Jaguar E-types etc etc etc... :))
Wrong topic :D but Cerb, GTA2 is almost 'ancient' compared to GTA3 and VC and so, you can expect better. Whats good about GTA2 is that you don't need to have broadband to play it, all these new games and mods require broadband just to get about 4 frikin' players on it. Sure, I'd love to play GTA3 or VC in multiplayer but I aint got broadband (thanks BT :#@ ) and stuck with a 56k until they upgrade the phone exchange... and that could be some time yet.
Network I find is far better and less bloody laggy. At the moment, for GTA2, we use a pier to pier network. Sure, only 2 players max but, with a ping at 10, you can't say its bad.
GTA2 will always be one of the better GTA series multiplayer around until a proper GTA 3D multiplayer comes out. GTA2 hasn't got the graphics I know, but its FAR EASIER to map and script ;D
Besides, how can you compare a 3D game to a 2D game (up to a point)? You can't :D
Edit:
You can map most of the things you find in GTA3 / VC, except of course things like the Sanchez arena thingy at the stadium in VC which of course, you can't do. Cool of you could though. Also, 95% of the missions you could program into GTA2, again, apart from missions like helicopter missions blah blah blah.
So you see, GTA2 can contend with the big boys of 3D :Y ------------------
