Next in my series of odd vehicles is a forklift. I figured out how to set up rear-wheel steering, and this was the only thing I could think to make that could even use it. So, erm, yea. It'll most likely end up replacing the PanLantic vans, so it will look a bit more natural sitting on the construction site. I'm about 70% done with it, and some of the planned features include: rear wheel steering (duh), damagable cargo on the palatte, and toolboxy things on the sides. I don't know a lot about forlifts, so if anything major appears to be missing from the renders, feedback/prodding is more than welcome. smile

dude. seriously. hehe, that's so cool. Any plans for a jcb stylee follow up? ;-)

just curious, how do you do the rear wheel steering? swap wheel_lf for wheel_lb or something? Hey, I could make my dad's dumper truck thing, that's rear wheel steering..

anywho, looks sweet, and like I said before good to see you still making motors. I'd comment on the dune buggy doodad, but my gta3 seems to have hit the "nope, too many things installed so I don't like you anymore" limit (technical terminology).

Lol, nice one this, I'll have to get this as soon as I get a new computer that can play gta3.

Is that a hidden package on the pallate (sp?), you should make lots of versions, one with the pallate filled with stacks of those hidden packages, and when you bump into something they get partly slinged of (when you loose the hood normally that is), and some of them remain on the pallate, only with the cocaine running out of rips in the packaging, forming loveley piles of white next to them, that'd be a quite lovely detail, don't you agree, please consider it yes .

Another idea would be to put a toolbox on it, and when you crash, tools would go flying and the box would lay on it's side with screws and more tools lying there, sure they would be in a set pattern (just model the hood as several tools, not sure if it can be done, but hey it'd be cool if it was, but I guess not as the hood hangs on a while and you have to crash again to loose it, maybe you can find a way around that?), but they would then be lying there on the ground in a small pile.

As you see, the possibilities are endless, boxes of fruit, rolls of toiletpaper, "Pogo the monkey" ps2 gameboxes (now that an idea for you, remember to put a nice large pogo the monkey logo on the crate), a toilet (tied to the pallate with rope just to give it that ekstra snap, just imagine the toilet, broken into a thousand pieces lying in a heap of porcelain on the pallate), Ammunation boxes (with the logo again, crash to loose the top of the crate, spilling handguns all over that pallate), only you imagination sets the limit...

Now, I'm not sure if all of these would work, but some of them should atleast.

*begs Illspirit to atleast make the one with the toilet on it* :S

Edit: make a sign on the back with the text "Fork it over Inc., lifting your **** since 1961"

ok i work with forklifts everyweek and this aint a bad rendition, firstly a few things to point out.  Forklifts dont have 2 seats, i can see that you may have put 2 in for the games sake thow.  The ones i use have a hydrolic ram in the middle of the 2 upright beems and are in stages, getting thinner the farther u go up.  Also the ones i use the seat is facing sideways and all the controls face to the left so when you are going forward you have to look to your right.  But i think there are probably many different types of FLT but those are a few doo hickys i noticed!

You SO have to let me set this up...it'll cause many people to piss themselves laughing when they see it in the Extreme Models area of my site, just above to the Sarin XTV and the Kuruma Dragster. biggrin

I rekon you should make it more of an off-roader version than it's looking atm...this an English or US based model btw?

8-wheeler Mobile crane next? smile

Holy fuck, just as proof that the universe truely was made for my convenience, whilst texture hunting for the Majera Raceway today I happened upon this creature, at the housing development a couple of miles from me:

This is just SO blatently what you should switch to!  Think of these being sat around the construction yard!  How authentic! biggrin

Ah, the JCB Loadall. Absolutely great fun to drive with the claw 'bucket' as you can pick up objects like cars and put them on farmhouse roofs! Hehe. They can lift over 2.5 ton. I want one...

hmmm... i wonder if there's a way to get the lifting mechanism to work, or appear to work by replacing the yardie lobo...

Could Cerb sneak back to the Const. Yard and "test"/record the horn sound?

right, i've done a little thinkin and thunkin and come up with an idea.

if it was to replace the lobo (not saying it HAS to, just saying it could be an option) then the whole body would lift up with hydrolics, but it the handling was tweaked well (cerb could handle it easy, especially with importer plus *plug plug*) then the whole body would slowly rise up, so with a good .col file, you could put the forks under police cars when they are stopped, lift the buggers up and drive around with them on the forks!  laugh

just an idea smile

Hey, that's a killer idea!  Having the hydraulics on this thing would be perfect.  Using the numpad you could lower the nose and raise the rear, which would make the tips of the forks sit level to the ground, then you could raise the nose and lower the tail to get the thing on and keep it there. smile

Howevr, GTA3's odd collision file handling could produce problems.  Worth a try though.  smilewinkgrin

@Azz- Not sure if I want to do any more construction vehicles. Although I was considering making a bulldozer-ish thingy which could be used as a mobile launch ramp.

You guessed it. All it took was swapping the front and rear wheel dummies around. Well that, and setting the steering lock to a negative number. Now that the (not so big) secret is out, will you make the dump truck then? That wold be a great replacement for the Trashmaster, and if you do make it, I'll do a .col for it so stuff could actually ride in the bin. biggrin

As for your NTMTISIDLYA™ error; do you have a bunch of extra renamed backup versions of replaced cars in your .img files? It could be that you've just reached the object limit for the files...

@Kab- Hmmm, those are some pretty good ideas there, but I'm afraid most of them would just require too many poly's, or more skills than I have available. I did add a weapom crate (see pics below), and might add the Pogo the Monkey games too. But, erm, I dunno about the toilet. tounge

@Fordy- w00t! A forklift expert. smile I didn't really think of adding a hydrulic lifty thing before, but I've added one now. Thanks for the prod. The pics I looked at for referance didn't really have a good angle on the lift assembly, but it did have a forward facing seat... besides, I think the game only works with forward seats, so it would have had to be like that anyhow. And yea, I just made it a two-seater for game related purposes.

@Cerb- Damn you! Why'd you have to come in here and put my little toy to shame with that behemoth? tounge

@Cactus- Don't know how well the idea of using the Lobo's hydro's to lift things would work... The .col files act a bit funny if you try carrying things on eachother. Ususally they just bounce off, and in some cases they get stuck inside of eachother. :/

----

Okay, I still need to work on some of the textures and dummies, and the .col file needs a lot of work still. Here's a couple of in-game shots of the progress:

I drove forklifts for a number of years, and here are some ideas:
A propane tank on the back
Same speed forward, and backwards
Low top speed (they don't handle good at high speeds)
Scratches in the paint (make it look used)
Instead of a pallet, large crate with logos on the side

Also here's some other vehicle ideas: Zamboni, Dragster, Go-cart, Cement Truck, Fred Flintstone Car.  laugh  laugh

Hehe, I knew that some of them would be impossible, but I just wanted to throw out some ideas wink , about that crate with the hidden packages, why is there one on the one to the right, but not the one on the left (in that pic you posted with two of them)? How about creating one of those statues (hidden packages) from Vice City and placing one of them on there by the side of the hidden package crate, nice little surprise to find for those that download this without having read this. Just study the one that lies on the table in Ocean View Hotel(is that it's name, not sure, the place where you first can save your game in Vice) with it's content spilled out to get the features right. That should be faster than starting a new save and finding one (I guess you have all 100? :S ).

It's getting pretty nice now aswell, but how about that sign, you can make your own caption if you didn't like mine, pleace put one on because again it would be a nice detail to have one. smile

That might work if he put the forklift in ViceCity, but it looks like he's using it in LibertyCity. Since GTAVC isn't out on PC yet, It would be hard to use it in ViceCity. tea

Ill, il see if its possilbe for me to get some pics of the ones i used in work ( we have 2) one of which is more like your one, its more heavy duty, and is used for unloading/loading from the delivery trucks.  The other is a smaller one which is used in store.  The big one has the front wheels  under cover, ie u cant see them, well jsut the bottom,  and on the roof is a flashing orange light!! Also there are various warning stickers, and a small vent on the top back bit!

Scully ol' boy, I suggest that you kindly read my post again, then you might catch on to the fact I asked him to model his own hidden package of the variety used in the lovely Vice City, not to make a Gta: Vice City version. Got that, nice boy, now hand me your tea before I'll be forced to slap you over that head of yours for not paying attention.

 tea Thanks.

kab, sorry if I misunderstood you. I thought you were suggesting  to take the hidden package file from ViceCity, and transfer it to GTA3. Didn't mean to step on your toes. And you can't have my tea. tea

how about "Fork it over. lifting your wallet since .." or my personal favourite "Forking it up since.."

looking very sweet now. I'll try deleting any backups I have and go from there, cheers. Might be tempted to do that dump truck next, but at the moment I'm working on something else smile
