Well here it is, my first foray into 3d carmaking. And just like my original entrance into the world of 2d car making, it's someone else's car biggrin

So now, I present you with Codemaster's Aston Martin DB7 Volante, as seen in TOCA/DTM/V8 Supercar/Pro Race driver 2. It's been harder than I first thought, deleting the different parts pertaining to different levels of detail and also removing the dummies, reorienting faces, and now having to do some actual modelling in the form of wheels, wheel arches, an engine, a interior of the boot, the bottom of the interior...*rambles on*...

P.S. Anyone interested in doing some wheels for me? Pretty please?

I was just about to comment on how excellent the polygon structure was for a first time, when I scrolled right and saw it wasn't actually your original mesh.  Starting with a conversion is a good idea, Ashdexx wrote an excellent tutorial about setting up aspects of the model to make it work in GTA3/VC.  You can find it here.

The Pits? also have a proper Tutorials Area although a lot of the people in there don't take kindly to new modelers, particularly those starting out with conversions.  If they bitch at you, just don't sink to getting involved with it.  There's some decent folks there who will help you in the Editing Discussion areas.

Thanks for the links Cerbera, though I think I'll stick with Azz's tutorial for the moment. I don't like slabs of text. And I'm still legally bound not to endorse off-site products...

Here's the handling I did for Yazu's V12 Vanquish, which uses the DB7 as the basis IIRC.  This handling was from a long time ago and is for GTA3, so if you want to try it you'll need to add the extra field Vice has, plus change flags, suspension and a bunch of other stuff which is just fiddly and horrible.
Code:
ESPERANT 1850.0 1.9 5.0 1.5 0.0 -0.04 0.22 75 0.80 0.72 0.49 5 300 27.0 R P 5.0 0.55 1 22.5 1.2 0.07 0.2 0.3 50000 0.20 -0.12 0.50 9103 0 1
Alternatively, you can supply me the line you currently have, I can steal the suspension limits, the flags, the lightbox sizes, the vehicle name, then work from there.  I can't use EXE programs on these library computers because of admin settings, so I can't calculate what the suspension effect should be accuratly.  If you get MiniScaler you'll be able to carry out the calculations I specify...which will be rather slow but at least they will be the right values.

To be a bit more specific to your car, we would use my Acceleration Experiments, from which I think an acceleration of 23 is reasonable.  If you can supply me the specs of this car (mass, dimensions, tyre widths, top speed) all in metric then I can tailor-make this setup.  Please post your current handling so I can cherry-pick those specifics which I can't calculate, though.

Once you get the vehicle in-game, I will be able to suggest a better handling line which you can test, review, then try revised versions which I will post in this thread according to what your review was.

Back to the topic though, and alas I have fallen ill with a severe case of CBF. Hence I have handed it over to our very own maestro of 3d car making, Eddy B, who shall have it done in no time. Honest.
