Heya. I've done some work on no. 4 from the "Which to finish?" topic. It's coming along, but needs a little tweaking. Finally dug out my copy of photoshop so I had a little play with the colours for a few previews. Why is photoshop so much better at hue shifting than psp? hmm.

As usual though I've looked at it for too long and need some fresh eyes to point out the imbalances and so on. Cheers folks,
Azz

Seems quite nice from here, though this is a 14" monitor on 1024x768 so the car is tinny...

Only quibble I see is the roof highlight, it seems to degrade too fast. Perhaps had a larger spot of light all throught the roof, like if you wanted to make it rounder, know what I mean?

The rear also could do with some bright highlights somewhere, it seems like it has a different shading style of the front/roof. Perhaps right behind the rear intake on the passenger's side and on the 2 lateral extensions of the roof... wink

Nice one really, you still got it!!

Yeah, the right-hand rear pillar is a bit vague, imho.  Just to make sure I wasn't going mad, I tried to search for the old Shade-A-Shape competition I'm sure was based on the flat shape of this vehicle.  I couldn't find it...so either I'm mad or the search engine isn't working right or the topic got lost from the old forum.  IIRC, it was a seriously long time ago so it being stuck on the old forum (which is probably now gone) seems likely.

Maybe GTAkreyz will remember it because, IIRC, he was the guy who won it.  Anyway, a highlight on the inside edge of that rear pillar might help to define it a bit better.  The area where it reaches the roof makes it look like it runs along at roof level for a while rather than descending.  I guess it would be tough putting some shading in there because you are between the shady side of the roof and the shady side of the boot?

Cheers for the feedback. The back end is a bit er, lame. It was a huge window and I was just about to put an engine in it when I thought, nah, done that too many times. Need to come up with a decent air intake arrangement, then tidy up the pillars.

Agree with what you both said about highlights and so on.

You made me think too Cerbera, but I had a look at found the same image Kreyz just posted. Then I couldn't figure out why my entry to the competition (did I come second?) wasn't listed in those results, but it seems I never posted my car on my own site lol. My entry is attached, just to clarify the difference. If I was rating my own cars I think I'd put my SaS in the top three with my Syncope and Audi A3.

Anywho, more feedback? Danke. I'll do some more work on it tonight and try and get inspired with the back end..

Looking good. Definatly some more light on the rear left. Also, those side windows need blending and the mirrors need some work. Love the green hack. :D

EDIT: Just saw that blue one ^.... incredible! Alfa-esque... That too need some more light on the rear left. It is brilliant though! I agree its in your top 3!

The SaS (the two attachments) is as done as it ever will be. I should really upload the delta sets to my site I suppose.

Have done a bit more work on the new one, will post later

    tweaked it a bit.

    Changes:
Spoiler. Attempted a curving spoiler, never been able to pull it off despite many attempts. Not sure how close I got now, but I've done a lot worse.
Rear vents. Gone for a diablo style angle vent array. Thoughts?
Wingmirrors. Alfa used to take the piss out of my huge wing mirrors, but I saw a pic of the bugatti eb110 or whatever it's called and they're about a foot long, so I felt justified using another pixel ;)
Lots of tweaks to the shading, especially to the rear end with highlights and trying to balance the rear pillars.
Rear view mirror. Can you see it? look closely lol.

I think it's starting to come to life. I kept comparing it to my AR 40 whilst I was making it and it really seemed like the poor cousin, but it's growing on me.

    Feedback most appreciated. Cheers,
    Azz

    Humm, sexy!!

Love the spoiler, done brilliantly except for the two top corners, which fade to black too subtly, making that whole area seem dented.

I see you've also touched up the roof, seems pretty good now.

The Diablo vents work nice as well, they have a nice realistic look to them...

It's coming along very nicely, right now there isn't much I can say about it.

Wow, I don't remember that.  The bonnet is meeean.  How the hell did you fit those intakes in on the sides?  Amazing.

The new version is looking brilliant, the diagonal stripes are so smooth and the interior detail is unbelievable!

That right rear pillar still seems rather vague, imho.  The way it connects to the roof in the same shade, then gets light on the way down seems...weird.  It's hard to describe quite what seems wrong about it but in general terms, it looks flat.

The rear quarter windows look quite square, especially the trailing edge.  Throwing a bit of smudgery at the pixel on the trailing edge of those windows and maybe a pixel or two coming forward would pinch the ends in and that would give you a bit more space to show the pillars descending from the roof, perhaps?  It looks hair-tearingly fiddly...glad I work with ASCII instead of pixels. uhoh

(EDIT) The blue one on the end does the right rear pillar pretty well, but that area right where it connects with the roof still doesn't *quite* seem to match the contour of the other side.  And it still has a slightly flat look.  Because there isn't any shadow or highlight on the inside edge (left) of the pillar, that might be part of what makes it seem a bit vague.

Is it just me or is the right-hand pink stripe extending a pixel too far to the left when compared to the other side at the back?

(EDIT2) No, I do not have OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) before you ask.

Right. Spent some more time on it and I'm happy with how it's coming.

It now has a name, the AR Coda. Thought it was quite nice, and fits in with the long running musical terminology trend the AR range has.

I've done a spider version too, though the cockpit needs a little tweaking. Spent ages trying to come up with a decent rear end for the spider, but went with an ferrari type affair which I think works. (nice counterpoint to the lambo based vents on the hard top too).

    Any more thoughts? Cheers.
