| My old incomplete INI2MIS program converted the 1969 deathmatch script to GTA2 with just a few clicks. It places all machineguns, flamethrowers, rocket launchers, phones, doors, sprayshops, bombshops, players and their starting cars. No footballs or park benchs, I will add them sometime. Electrogun, grenades and molotovs would add to the fun but they can go on another multiplayer script. How were these cars placed in GTA1 London? Only the black "Ferocious GTO" has a PARKED command in the deathmatch section of missuk.ini. ![]() What did you do about all the black squares that were supposed to be bushes? ------------------ Stealing cars is the easy part |

| I'll be sure to have a look, but I'm concentrating on single player for now As an interesting point, is it possible to change colours in a palette whilst keeping the palette order? I found out yesterday by means of error that the car name background (the one in golden yellow) is attached to the colours for the font of the car name! So when I changed it over last night to look like GTA London (the blue background) it made a new palette with only the colours used (blues etc), and left big empty gaps in the palette (coloured black). So if anyone can tell me how to do replace colours in the palette without changing the order, I'll be able to happily change it to look like London! Also, the car name font is nowhere to be seen in the STY file, so I can't change its style! The only fonts I see are the big yellow ones, the small golden ones for messages, letters for the main menus etc and a few others like score etc. As a note, the mission text won't have any funny colours in it (look at my pictures, default is golden text but special writing is blue), and will remain simply yellow. Now, any sign of Delfi? I hate the GTA2 palette system! Why can't there just be one big palette with all 16.7 million colours? ------------------ ![]() Quote: "Side effects may include: dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, water retention, painful rectal itch, hallucination, dementia, psychosis, coma, death, and halitosis. | I just looked at Larabies GTA2 cars (haven't seen them for years, and the last time I saw them I was a bit of a noob and thought they looked worse than the actual GTA2 ones). I've a couple of questions - Who designed the GTA2 vehicles? Did someone design them and Larabie reshaded them all? Shame noone ever made a GTA2 mod with Larabies cars in. Compared to all the shit that's been made over the years, it wouldn't have been too much work adding deltas. |

I wanted to give the player health when entering an ambulance but there doesn't appear to be any way to increase health other than health powerups in fixed locations. Small levels are more fun for deathmatch multiplayer. I probably wouldn't play a deathmatch script on the large London map, more than a few times. It will be fun to play some singleplayer missions again. I think we should all use the same e.gxt file for different mods, so you don't have to switch each time. You can download shared_gta2_e.gxt.rar, has original text, text for Bernarr's maps and text for Mal's race. ------------------ Stealing cars is the easy part |

Just staring at Larabies cars, I can feel them begging to be used. I'm curious to see how they would fit in the GTA2 style world... the GTA2 style shading makes sense (technically speaking) but somehow just doesn't look as cool. |

| The original GTA2 stuff is just top down renders of 3d models as I understand it (so quite why they were never released as 3d models I don't know). Ray did those at the point he was in quite close contact with the community and wanted to show what it might have looked like had they asked him to do it, which they didn't. Shame really. I always felt like GTA2 was a bit of a kick in the nuts graphically, since we'd spent years refining the GTA, then GTA London style to something that I think was bordering on artwork, then they went a completely different direction with something that was in no way a comparable standard. Surely a better plan would have been to have followed the GTAL style, but got someone awesome in to piss all over our work and show how it could be done.. Anywho. ------------------ azz.gouranga.com est. 1998 (I am oldskoolier than joo) |

Yer there is even artwork released showing some of the models properly. Shame that they didn't release the models though, as I would maybe have had a go at remakes, but for quite a few you couldn't exactly see what the car was meant to be like and a 3d model would have helped a load. ------------------ Knott Anymore |

| Well Azz if you think about it... The refined GTA1/L style IS the prettiest to look at. However, in the game, it's not quite the same. There's something not quite right about the point-source light style, as the highlights should move around all the time. GTA2 style solved that slightly because the light was always from above, so it remained consistant. I still think you can do some nice stuff in GTA2 style , but I definately agree that GTA1 was more artistic and more realistic looking. The graphics were really the only thing that dissapointed about GTA2 (And I'm not talking about the graphics engine or whatever, just the style and textures). Or maybe it was because the game was futuristic. Either way I can't wait to try GTA2 London. Would it be possible to copy over all the vehicles? Using some clever tool? That is, all the vehicles for which we have no replacements? |

| Well it weren't really futuristic, it was quite wierd - all the cars were really old. The only problem was it was hard to make them out. I don't neccesarily think this is becaise of the shading style, but more becuase they were made from renders of models. This took away the artistic liscence when making the cars really I suppose (well not actually when making the models but you know what I mean). This would make them look more realistic but wouldn't be as good for getting a good idea of what the cars looked like. What I mean is that in making 2d cars, it is sometimes good to show more of the grill than you are meant to, and the lights and stuff, even if they are on the vertical plane, as this helps the player recognise the cars much more easily and get a better understanding of what they look like :) ------------------ Knott Anymore |

| I am sure that GTA2 was meant to be in the future. Here look at this, taken from rockstars GTA2 site: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Quote: The cars themselves handle like a dream - modeled in three dimensions before being transferred into the GTA 2 top down 3D engine, they're based on a futuristic interpretation of huge 50s cars - as if Havana got transported to the 21st Century. Ranging in power from the most feeble electric cars (like family milk floats) to huge, gas guzzling sports cars for middle aged men, which are the sleekest, most aggressive vehicles seen in a game. Apart from, of course, the police cars which can out gun any vehicle, although they have been known to react badly to a headlong collision with an articulated lorry. Quote: A futuristic urban nightmare. The international city that we are all terrified is only a few years away, is yours for the taking. Modeled on the apocalyptic visions of the future from the 1970s and 1980s, the city for GTA 2 is a fully dysfunctional urban hell. Like all cities, it has a fully international flavor and each different group in the city wants to control something. |

| I find it strange that these cars were rendered from a 3D representation of the car, but still look reasonable. I find that some of the Larabie cars don't look as 'appealing' as the ones already in GTA2, but things like the tank, bus and a few others look really nice. We would have to decide on one form of cars or another (classic London cars or the new Larabie cars - or just leave the cars alone!), but the general idea is that GTA2 London is set way after the original game, so hopefully might be able to sort out fixing up some Larabie cars Copying all the classic vehicles would obviously take time, as looking at the deltas for GTA and GTA2 are quite different. And would there be enough 'space' for them to fit? You would have to think on what cars would replace which, no point in replacing a 4x4 with the Wellard for example. As I've mentioned before, I'd prefer the Larabie style for the car replacements! Hopefully tomorrow I'll have those pictures ready! ------------------ ![]() Quote: "Side effects may include: dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, water retention, painful rectal itch, hallucination, dementia, psychosis, coma, death, and halitosis.
