| Pyro GTA2 Scripter & Mapper
| As some of you may know, the sequel to Relics Warhammer 40,000 Dawn on War, Winter Assault, is almost upon us, hitting the shelves at the end of the month (UK). The original game was a big hit, and proved itself as a versatile strategy game set in the far future! Online play is reasonable, but that's what alot of people play really... that is if you can withstand having to register with Gayspy (I mean, Gamespy With an update of course, comes new units, even as far as going as to add a new race - the Imperial Guard (aka - cannon fodder). While this might seem fun, the new campaign looks promising - being able to choose your side from either the Forces of Order (Space Marines, Eldar and Imperial Guard) or the Forces of Disorder (Chaos Space Marines and Orks) and should provide even more playability than the orginal campaign. Now, my opinion on the downside of this... The Games Workshop Warhammer 40,000 is huge, and has multiple races. In theory, Relic could effectively add a new expansion pack for each and every race (lets say another 5 or 6) and could prove pointless (and expensive) but good in their eyes. Relic seem to have all their attention turned to the Imperial Guard (humans/cannon fodder/meat shield), rather than improving the other races. It appears only 1 new unit is being added to the other races, which I find shocking. Hopefully, they'll add a few more due to the fact the fanbase has been crying out for vast improvments over some of the units. Should be fun anyway. I'll be buying it to kill some time and blow up some green-skinned Orks to back where they came from For a vast array of images, feel free to wonder over to IGN to view images or even check out some videos (you need to be registered... gasp!). What do you think? Prety slick for a far flung strategy game to save/destroy mankind! I love it, and so should you ------------------ ![]() Quote: "Side effects may include: dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, water retention, painful rectal itch, hallucination, dementia, psychosis, coma, death, and halitosis. | I thought the original was great, about the only game I've played a single player campaign all the way through twice. Bit disappointed in their choice of Guard, simply because there's already a pretty decent user made mod for Guard out there. Would have been nice to see one of the more obscure races get a look in, but of course that wouldn't happen since the GW folks are some of the shrewdest business people I know, and obviously they want to do what's best for their model ranges. Couldn't make me play the game online though, with the average game lasting about 45 seconds due to the overwhelming superiority of Eldar rushes. But I could play skirmishes against the computer all day, and yeah, really looking forward to winter assault. ------------------ azz.gouranga.com est. 1998 (I am oldskoolier than joo) |
