Wait, Icey, don't you have the pictures the wrong way round? Because it makes it look like the "Before" is faster than the "After"

The first one was BYTES per second, while the "After" was KILOBYTES per second.

Congrats Icey, your porn surfing time will be 1/8 of what it used to be. That's a definite improvement.

Cool, almost as fast as my 10 megabit, YEAH

Although I hardly ever use it, so it's pretty much a waste of money...

It pretty much was... I remember we got it in 2001 so it's getting close! Perhaps where Icey comes from it has been ?

When the estate we live on was built (about six and a half years ago) the cables put down were just basic ones that wouldn't support broadband (or so we kept getting told). It's taken them since that time until now to do something about it!

2na is probably right though, I don't think I've been waiting all that time, perhaps it's more like five years that I've wanted a faster connection and the last three when I've been seriously annoyed that I couldn't have one.

But no matter, I have it now. It was definitely worth the wait and I have a lot of catching up to do! At the moment I'm wondering which are the best multiplayer games. Battlefield 2 perhaps?

I was really disappointed when I played Battlefield 2. I'm a huge 1942 and Vietnam fan, but I found the new version to be clunky, bloated, and just not as fun. Not sure why but just doesn't feel as slick. Certainly don't think the difference in graphics between vietnam and bf2 warrants the 30odd second load times. Just all felt a bit..meh.

Doesn't help I tried the demo of that on the same day as I tried Call of duty 2 I suppose. But nope, sticking with Vietnam until something better comes along :)

I really enjoyed 1942 and played that for ages and also a superb modification called Eve of Destruction, never bothered with Vietnam because EoD was so brilliant - more harsh and balanced than anything else. Got 2 and found it was a bit disappointing, very unbalanced. Played a few nights never really bothered again.

So overall, you should play Minesweeper.

Hoorah for icey!  I'm rather lucky since the first internet connection we got in late 2001 was broadband.  Was only a 128kbps connection from NTL but it was still way faster than narrowband 56kbps.  Over the years they've upgraded their service quite regularly, now it's a 2Mbps connection. Browsing websites on serviers in South East England is almost as fast as viewing them straight from my hard drive. smile

Now I can play GTA2 online with four, five and even six players with hardly any lag, as long as the other players have good connections are in England or a well connected part of Europe.  Much fun, especially the racing levels.

As I just built a new rather good PC - BF:2 ACTUALLY looks different on it. I msut say I still find 1942 and Vietnam more fun - I love Vietnam (simply for the fact it is Vietnam - NAPALM! HELIS!) They actually ported EOD over to Vietnam, its bloody ace, despite bieng a vietnam vietnam mod.

Either way, 2 is fun - but only when sitting down for a long slog of it - the originals were easier for pick up and play ability. I should state though, I do lvoe BF:2, but I should do my college work first.

Hmm, see - I loved BF1942 (even more so thanks to DC), hated BF:V (for some reason multiplayer was *always* laggy for me, and the helis were annoying, but EOD was indeed fun), and I still like playing BF2. The expansion is fun as well, but it's a shame that EA is money whoring instead of giving us free content like they did with 42. But it's great fun sitting on your PC at midnight, with the night vision on, climbing over a wall and quickly popping any onlookers in the head.

My PC is crap. I recently considered upgrading to more than the current 196MB RAM I have.

Thanks for the reply's, it seems everyone has a different opinion!

I think I'd prefer roleplaying and strategy games more than action games. Although, perhaps I'm being neive and the latest shooting games do involve a lot of strategy and tactics. I'm going to play the multiplayer parts of my current games to get an idea of what I like and then go from there.

I should write a multiplayer minesweeper game! Actually, I always wanted to write a multiplayer tetris game...
