To be honest it's the game I have had the most fun with on Xbox 360, I wouldn?t pay full price for it for being so short (rented it anwayz), but when it drops down, I think I will be picking up a copy: Think GTA: Vice City meets good graphics and the ability to do every stunt from every action movie ever.

The weird thing is, it seems to have A LOT of GTA2 References, I don?t know if it?s coincidence or what, but the first thing I noticed was the style that the cars are modelled in:

Plus ?gang? cars are the same models but in a different color with a roof logo.

The black clothing and the gun holsters hmm:

The Classic ?clomp clomp clomp? footstep noises on tarmac and metal seem to be identical ? I know that might be nictpicking but it?s very hard to ignore when your running across rooftops joined by metal bridges.

Saving and loading also works exactly like all 3D GTA?s have worked, cheesy mission names in save slots with dates first.

Infact this game is preaty epic coz you can do dis:

Yeah, picked this up the other day, pretty bloody good actually, a right laugh with the stunt mode.
Couple of annoying glitches (few days ago none of my guns would shoot anyone, and the bullets just passed through and hit the landscape behind)
I'm loving the size of the place, took me half an hour to get from one side to the other, in a plane!

Played the demo on PC, however it ran like shit.

I'll give it another shot when they return my better graphics card from repair...

Yeah man tell me about it, yet you never get bored of the landscape, hovering low past breathtaking beaches with reflective water and golden sand in your attack helicopter never gets old.  Just LOOK at it:

It's like FarCry on a mass scale.

No game has ever had me in aw at the graphics and scale like that.

Also remember matty to use the extraction in your PDF to skydive to your chosen location.

Hmmm, looks truly impressive. Especially the cars.

I spotted this in the shop the other week and the case didn't really tell me much. On your reccomendation 2na, I trust it'll be good.

GTA2 captured the near-future style so perfectly that anything made in that genre since is bound to look like a copy. I doubt it's intentional, although some of the development team probably played and loved GTA2 back in the 20th Century (yes, it really was that long ago!).

I was watching a friend play World of Warcraft the other day. Modern free-roaming 3D games make the 3D GTAs look really angular and outdated. But on the other hand, they tend to fall very short on the vehicle physics and don't cover as many bases as GTASA does.

What's the vehicle physics in Just Cause like? Is it realistic physics with Hollywood handling like GTASA, or have they tried something different? Can you do multiplayer with it?

I downloaded it earlier to have a go, but had problems. Firstly it wouldn't run until I installed something called OpenAL and even then the sound was buggy. But mainly I couldn't figure out how to remap the keys, meaning I had to try and play using wasd, which I just can't do (as a lefty I always use cursor keys so I'm not perched on the left hand side of my desk).

Meh. Seemed ok, but inability to control the duder meant I got frustrated after about thirty seconds and uninstalled it.

I'm sure it's really good though ;)

I thought the demo was utter shit, the driving and the graphics are both pretty arse. It remided me of Far Cry with Tomb Raider 1 style movement... blocky and clunky, with some fancy ass HDR on it that IMO makes games look like a shitty over exposed photo you'd drop in the bin.

But that's me.

Hollywood handling out the ars, but you have to realise in Just Cause, you can jump onto the roof of a car, sail it over a cliff and then parachute off guns a blazing.

Okay so I've went to download the demo just like some of you did and decided to try it out.

The graphic looks nice and crap, but the controls are a pain in the arse!
You can't redefine them to the way you want and just like Azz had mentioned before. Controlling
the car requires you to press WASD, which is something I really can't be bother with.
After practicing a few times I managed to get the hang of it, but my left hand gets tired really quick since
I'm not used to using WASD for controlling a vechicle.

The timing on the mission are a bit too short. It seems that once you finished the first mission, you must
get to the 2nd once in a few minutes or else you fail. The mission starting points are like miles apart and the
road are treacherous, with barely and roads at all, basically all mountains, you really can't get from point A to point B
in a short amout of time. As for the cars, they're weak and
pathetic. It seems as if the developers in who designed this game, haven't account that cars are calculated in
horsepowers not mule-powers?  While some cars may be faster than others, but overall IMHO they are all slow.
It somehow doesn't have that type of feeling like in GTA3 driving a Rumpo and then a Infernus, you somehow get
that feeling the Infernus is faster and you can feel it. In this game all cars feels the same.

The controlling of the character is alright. It's similar to all other games that uses the same controls, but
one thing I hate about it is, every time the character gets out of a vechicle it does some dramatic move and that
takes up a few precious seconds. During one part of the game play as I was suppose to go to
the top roof of a oil factory, the character exit the vechile and did his stupid movement, and by doing so I failed the mission!
Arghh!!!!!!! Also somehow there is no sprint option. But it's either just me not bothering looking at the controls or
there is none at all. In some games pressing the combined keys shift+w makes the character sprint, but
in this game, it makes the character walk, like if the world evolves around him. Hello! You got a mission!
Sprint god damn you! Sprint!!!!!

Other thing is this character IMO likes to do faggot poses every time you throw a gernade.
Throw a gernade and he does a faggot pose, which takes about a few good 3 seconds or so.
During that time you really can't move unless you move your mouse and press the movement
keys vigorously.

Controlling the helicopter is a bit easier when using the WASD,  since there aren't that much movement, but
using the mouse to look around your surrounds while flying is just something that I really hate to do.
They shouldn't gone with some type of auto-camera mode so that when you fly towards the right, you see what's on the right, instead
of some other directions. Althought this new mouse viewing features seems pretty cool (like you can do a 360 degree view of your entire surrounding)
overall it's just not worth it plus it's too difficult to manage. Also when do so, it makes you fly off course and fail the mission.

The end of the demo, looks a bit too dramatic with it's "to be continued" crap, somehow I really don't
want to know how the game really goes.

All these problems are all computer related and none of my concern I'm afraid!

Yeah, I see you were playing it on the Xbox360.
But as for playing on the PC, I say it's not my PC nor any other PCs.

It's the game, they designed it with flaws.
The PC version that is.  cool

Erm...

I have the full game, if not paid for.

You CAN remap the controls fine. I don't know WHAT DaDa was talking about with mission timing at all, I am yet to encouter this? I often do a mission the just fuck about for a long time. Then do another. No failiure for me.

The character only dives out of the vehicile in an odd style if you are moving fast. Put the brakes on and get out it is fine. Just like in GTA, if moving, the character bails out.

The freeform thing is great, there are lots of side missions to do (if a little generic, but give you fun bonuses at your bases). The helicopters are FAR better than the ones in Vice City or San Andreas, they are actuall FAST. And the guns are better, ou change between either machine gun or rockets, and you can aim them, not just straight ahead.

The graphics are beutiful. The boats are super fun, especially the government boat.

And I just realised whilst taking screenies, its still set in 800*600. Oops. Damn anti-aliasing for making low resolutions look smooth.

And, there is a bulldozer. Win.

Meh, dragged this up a bit but I was playing JC today, and found a new quite amusing past time.
Now, the first time I did this, was by accident, and the mines just fell through the car and earlier today, whilst just getting rid of a pick-up truck (was the kind based on the Citroen H if anyones interested) I dropped a remote detonating mine in the bed at the back.
It didn't go through.
Turns out you can load up the back with mines, and drive around, and its fairly hard to shake them out.

So, I grabbed the more common pick-up (Shimizu Tumbleweed or whatever it is) and filled the back up with about 20 mines.
Muchos fun.
Blew it skyhigh, and, hilariously, landed in the flatbed part of of the large farm trucks.

Which are also good for mines.

Best thing to grab would be the army trucks though, since the sides are so high stuff can't fall out.

Backed one up under a roof/porch, the roof of said building holding 3 of the explosive red barrels. Pushed them in the back of the truck, dropped a mine in for each barrel (one woulda done but hey) then chucked in the remaining two from my inventory, and away I went.
And shit, away the truck and everything within a 20 metre radius went when I set it off. Bloody good fun.

Beware the PS2 version and its lack of graphics.

Also, beware calling in vehicle drops that land on your head. They either bounce 20,000 feet high or kill you. Or both.

I've noticed a few bugs sofar in the game.

One of which proved amusing. Well, a few did. But a broken road always makes fun with the AI.

I grabbed the game a couple of weeks ago and had a blast parachuting down to the island. Then I got in a car and things went downhill. When you hit anything, you simply bounce off with a muffled bump sound. It's like hitting a cardboard box with a little toy car. I thought this game would be violent and fun, not a little kid's sandbox cry
