| i've never driven on ice in the Pontiac...err, Monaro. but i have done plenty of ice driving in the truck. the all terrain tires help some, but not much. it's kind of fun if you know what to do.
as soon as you hit ice, you notice all the controls go mushy (yeah, even in the truck, lol, so i'm sure it's even more noticeable in a car). what you're supposed to do is take your feet off ALL the pedals, then (only if you're sliding) turn into the slide and get ready to pounce on the accelerator once you hit tarmac again. if you're not sliding, you just hold the steering wheel in the exact position you were holding it when you hit the ice.
or, you can go out and driftoooooo EVERYWHERE (though i've only done it in parking lots). the most fun thing to do is drift in a FWD car. (think traying, without the trays). but FWD cars are a little less tricky to maneuver on the ice, seeing as how all the weight is over the drive wheels.
it ended up freezing last night, school is canceled, and there have been a number of silly accidents this morning alone. we have this overpass, at HWY6 and Hempstead HWY, right before 290, that goes up really high, then goes back down under 290. at least five or six cars this morning flew up the overpass, not thinking about ice, lost control, and just glided right to their doom. lol. people are stupid. |
