The sad fact is that people, businesses, have to make profit to stay in business. That means releasing something they can sell to make that money. As soon as possible. This means a compromise of how long do we have/finishing it. I think they do quite a good job (game developers at least) for the most part - I've only played a few games that you actually CAN'T complete without a patch (Vampire: Bloodlines, Joint Opperations, KOTOR2). IF only they didn't need to make profit, we'd get 100% finished unbroken games. We'd also wait five years for each one.

I like this happy compromoise. Most of the time bugs can be amusing. Especially when someones face turns inside out.

Yeah, but haven't you noticed how this is escalating though? My N64 games never needed patching. Yes, games are getting more complicated, but so are the tools being used to make them.

On the other side of this argument though, one awesome thing about games being online is the fact that some developers release additional free content every now and then. That's always nice to have.

i swear if bethesda fuck up fallout 3, i'm going to be really really pissed off.

interplay should've release the unfished version of Van Buren and let the rest of it's fans get a team together to finish it in their spare time..  with all the design docs that are floating around, it could've kinda been done..  the community was alright at modding fallout 2..

like seriously, i will stab children in the face if they fuck it up.

If they fuck up Fallout 3 I am going in like John Matrix (Yes the fucker from Commando) killing every last fuck in there and raping every feted orifice I can find. Then smearing my own shite onto the wall to spell "You be having $350?"  Then I might go home and have a bath followed by a light supper.

Over the top, but not a million miles away from my reaction to Silent Hill 4: The Room.

I didn't think that SH4 was that bad, I though the 13 sacraments story was pretty good.

Yes, fine, the story was good, but the actual gameplay was dreadful. It all felt so half assed, like they'd blown their wads on Silent Hill 3 and couldn't even be arsed to follow it up. But, worst of all, the utter lowest of the low, they increase the play time by making you go through the entire thing twice! "Oh great, here I am in the round prison level again! As if I didn't love it enough the first time around!"

For all their faults, not something you could ever accuse Rockstar of.
