There is a $50 million incentive to keep exclusive episodic content ?only on Xbox 360.?

There will be two distinct episodic content packages related to Grand Theft Auto, each costing Microsoft $25 million, according to comments made during the conference. The $50 million may help Take-Two alleviate its recent financial woes.

?The first 25 is for the first episodic content package that?s supposed to go out and that is in March of ?08. That?s why it moved into current because it?s in the next 12 months,? Take-Two CFO Lainie Goldstein explained. ?The second 25 will be for the second episodic, the episode, and that will be later in fiscal ?08.?

Despite the Xbox 360 exclusivity deal, Take-Two Chairman of the Board Strauss Zelnick believes the pull of Grand Theft Auto IV will still stir sales of the PlayStation 3. ?We think that frankly, the release of Grand Theft Auto 4 is going to have a materially beneficial impact on the sales of PS3. Certainly if history is any guide, that?s going to be the case. We think this is a must-own title that will help the platform,? he said.

Zelnick also hints at differences between the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, ?Obviously we?ve episodic content coming for X-Box 360 for the title and because the consoles do differ, there will be some differences in the games. My kids actually have three game consoles at home and sometimes play the same titles on different consoles and they see some differences and they find that compelling. So there?ll be ? these obviously are not going to be identical experiences but they are going to be very, very close.?

Grand Theft Auto IV ships to retailers on October 16 as both a regular and special edition.

Episodic GTA indeed. That's a novel idea, but I don't think it'll be such a big pull as MS expect here. Do most console players actually care for this? I doubt it, most will get it, play through it for a while, then forget about the game entirley.

I daresay the PC will not get this contect when it is released, likey in '08 (Do sony still got that release delay deal with R* going on?). But I daresay too, someone will crack it.

Na, I don't think Sony does. If they did then it shouldn't be coming out on Xbox right at launch then. As far as the content goes, I'll get it, I just hope Rockstar delivers unlike *cough* Saints Row.

Oh well.

I'd still never guy this for a shitbox. What would be the point?

I think Will is correct - people will cane through the game, complete it or whatever, and then largely won't care. I personally wouldn't see myself buying episodic content - tbh I hate this new episodic content fad, it's just an excuse for money grabbers to trickle hardly any new content in whilst charging premium prices.

: It's not much for downloadable content. Unless I'm remembering wrong 800 points is around $10, and that's probably the most I ever see a single pack for, and if $10 added a few new cars, weapons or even a little extra to the map I'm all over that.

But you know, on the plus side kudos to Rockstar for creating a brand they can sell twice.

I have no plans to buy a third gen console, I use my ps2 once in a blue moon to occasionally play GT4. So if no pc release, no gta4 for me.

Using a dollar sign in "Microsoft" stopped being cute in about 1997.

Me too, except I play GT4 quite regularly (I only bought it this year).

Even if it comes out on PC, I might not get it. Even with proper support for mods I might not bother. Maybe get it to play through during Winter, but when the weather's nice staying inside with an action RPG seems a bit sad to me now.

That is very true.

I rarely play consoles. I waited until a few months ago to get a cheap PS2 only for GT4. It's all I want it for. It's a good game.

GTA4 is a PC wait out release for me. I simply think GTA is better on PC. And Cerbera - you go OUTSIDE now?

I can't stand SimLife, the cheats won't work for me, the character design sucks and the missions are boring. But at least, graphics are good.
