Removing the cats is a silly idea. It will screw up your fuelling and it will be too loud to live with I reckon.
I'd mabe go from manifold to back box but keep the back box standard. So have a straight through pipe with just the rear box and cat. That'll be a cheap enough solution to get you some rumble, and will be cheap enough to revert back to standard if you wish to sell.
My cars back box is good for 280bhp (200bhp standard) and I don't want a silly sounding car (Well I don't know if I do, I've been looking at the Buddy Club spec IV cat back system). But anyway, I'll probably end up doing all but a decat and back box change on my car. Spoon 4-2 + 2-1+ Spoon B-Pipe and keep the standard cat and rear box.
no, that's not what would happen. the cats have no bearing on fueling at all, the only sensors attributed to the cats are the o2 sensors, but those are post-cat and serve only to monitor engine efficiency and to trigger smog-protection faults. the fuel is already burned by then, so it would make no difference. removing the cats would net a loss of torque, but gain a few HP. your exhaust would smell pretty bad, and it would get a little raspy (unless you picked a good resonator), but it wouldn't really be that much louder.
what i would do, personally, is to get some nice 4-2 headers and a 2-1 catch can, a high-flow cat, straight pipe it back through a nice resonator (and muffler if you want to keep the quiet still). you'll get a nice rumble and a nice noise at WOT, but for cruising and idling it'll be civilized.
there wouldn't be any point in keeping the stock cat-back, that's the most restrictive part of the exhaust. total waste of money. |
