UK,  October 8, 2007 - Rockstar's attempts to publish its Manhunt 2 in the UK, following the British Board of Film Classification's decision to deny the game a rating, has hit another brick wall. The BBFC has now rejected a revised edition of the game, saying that, although it recognises that changes have been made, they don't go far enough to address concerns raised with the original submission.

David Cooke, director of the BBFC said: "The impact of the revisions on the bleakness and callousness of tone, or the essential nature of the gameplay, is clearly insufficient. There has been a reduction in the visual detail in some of the 'execution kills', but in others they retain their original visceral and casually sadistic nature.

"We did make suggestions for further changes to the game, but the distributor has chosen not to make them, and as a result we have rejected the game on both platforms. The decision on whether or not an appeal goes ahead lies with the distributor."

In June the BBFC refused to give Manhunt 2 a classification, saying its "unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone [...] constantly encourages visceral killing with exceptionally little alleviation or distancing".

Rockstar's appeal against the decision was suspended while the developer offered up a revised version of the game. We contacted Rockstar for comment and a statement is set for release shortly.

Over in the US, the revised version of Manhunt 2 was finally granted an 'M' rating by the ESRB, following the original submission's kiss-of-death 'AO' classification. The updated game will now hit US stores on October 29.

Bleakness? So, why hasn't Silent Hill 2 been banzored? That's about as unremittingly bleak a game as any other I can think of, taking in tales of child abuse and mercy killings as it goes.

Distancing? Any FPS. You're seeing the game through the main characters eyes, as they blow people away no less. Fucking hell, how did these people let Urban Chaos: Riot Response get past? Oh, no, wait, that one may be sickeningly violent, but hey, you're playing as a heroic, lifesaving policeman! That means it's all good! Explode all the brain matter you like, because you have the moral high ground!

Lets face it, they're pussyfooting about here like scared little girls. I've got a horrible feeling that if Manhunt 2 ever does get past these useless wimps, it's going to be completely neutered. BUT HEY, I CAN STILL WATCH THE TORTURE SCENES IN HOSTEL AND WOLF CREEK. AND THEN FOLLOW IT UP WITH THE RAPE SCENE FROM IRREVERSIBLE. LOLOLOL.

Yes, those three examples are ART. Not GROT. No sir.

The censoring is just shit for public approval from conservative tossers. Oh no, can't let our kids play games about violence. Oh, but lets go watch a nice war film about killing Germans, or a film about settlers wiping out the natives to take America.

Hell, let's watch the news, about paedophilia, slaughter in the Mid East showing burnt and dismembered people, and the genocide in Africa.

Fuck it, just wait for in essence the "Red Blood" patch like Carmageddon had. If they censor a game, there will be a workaround.

For Manhunt I hope they do, lets face it Rockstar are never that good at patching up games once they are in the final stages, the whole hot coffee incident, plus every 3D GTA with hookers in Australia.

That and I realy realy realy just want to play the Uncut Manhunt 2.
