Azz the barbarian. grrr Joined: Feb '03 Posts: 1,785 Type: Administrator	Hey folks, So after ten years or so the gouranga.com domain is about to shut down. I guess all good things have their time, and in the case of GTAzz I think that was a fair few years ago now ;). schu is making arrangements for G!, so I'd expect that to stick around in some form, I don't know the details. I'm taking GTAzz offline, simply because it's essentially been dead for quite a while. It's a shame, since it turns 10 in May, but what can you do? If I can be bothered I'll sort out somewhere for the cars database to go. Not with a view to reviewing new cars, but more because I think it'd be nice to keep them available. I actually rebuilt most of the site as a wiki a while back, so I might upload that to my own webspace too, we'll see. For some reason in this age of multi-terabyte servers, webspace is still fucking expensive. Which brings us to the forums. I'm not sure if schu is planning on putting them up on his new site, or if he'll even have facilities to do so. We could possibly find a free host for them somewhere, unless someone here has their own webspace and would be happy to sort them out. Whatever happens, it's the end of the road for me and schu as hosting buddies (ok ok, I was a squatter, shh), and the end for GTAzz. I've already said this to him in private, but thanks schu for all the years of free hosting, has been incredibly civilised of you. And thanks for hosting the forums, which as a general rule is incredibly uncivilised. On the plus side I'll get rid of some of the guilt I feel for not doing anything with GTAzz :) Anywho, just wanted to update people. If we don't sort out a forums replacement before this one goes away it'll all go very quiet. If you show up one day and the url doesn't work, we'll try and sort something out. That's bit sad, but I understand it. This happens to most of major fan pages... But now... I haven't seen admin for... 2 years? Zaibatsu lost it's "gta2.pl" domain quite fast, then suddenly switched from "gta.pl" into "zaibatsu.pl" (it is said, that somebody forgot to pay for a domain on time)... Now everybody is studying, spending time learning or with a girlfriend... Simply no time for GTA anymore. And same stuff here - Every time I check this forum I find discussion about cars.. Not 2D/3D models, but fcking nice "real life" cars, stories about selling, buying, tuning, having it hit by somebody, etc, etc... Say when have you last modded any GTA game? :) But on the other hand - It was (shit it IS STILL) the place, where I can find most of useful stuff for GTA2, like map editors, script compiler, etc... Very often when somebody asks me about making GTA2 maps I say "www.gouranga.com, GTA2>download>maps>GTA2 map editor". Hope that all that useful, and not so big files will be still hosted. BTW - I've send a car to GTAzz and I was guessing if somebody will even check if sth was uploaded... And now I've the answer :)

Damnit!

I do have shit machine I have been trying to get running (old p4 2ghz, 1.5gb ram) but it refuse to do anything past booting. Won't install windows or shit. I'd suggest sending John the icey forum codez and shit if he can get a slow server up and going. I do have shit machine I have been trying to get running (old p4 2ghz, 1.5gb ram) but it refuse to do anything past booting. Won't install windows or shit. Definatley save this forum code though, it is good.

Reall sucks. When I think about it, I been here a while. We're like a bunch of grumpy old men. Frag hits the nail on the head describing it as a pub.

Props Schu, kept it alive despite the fact 90% of the site was dead. But all things must end one day. Shame, really is. First forum I check of the ones I am on, and the least active. But I like this place.

look, i told you guys, i'll do it. i've got a server now, and you can live with a few months or so of slow service, then i can move the boards to my current server, host it out of my house, and then use that time to get myself some dedicated hosting. i love this forum too much to let it go away. i will make it happen, if Azz and Icey give me the rights to the boards and the post repository. even if i can't use Iceyboard, i could reconstruct the boards with vBulletin or something. Unfortunately Icey is mia at the moment so not sure how we'll go about getting stuff out of the current boards. I possibly have some login details buried in my inbox, shall rummage. No new information I'm afraid. The situation is all a bit sensitive at the mo but once things are made definite I'll let people know. Unfortunately Icey is mia at the moment so not sure how we'll go about getting stuff out of the current boards. I possibly have some login details buried in my inbox, shall rummage.

Does anyone know anything about the alternatives for free boards? I visit a few invision boards and they're pretty shit. Just thinking as a less management intensive alternative than trying to sort out hosting (though your offer is well received Disco and if we can get in to the ftp might be worth a stab).

On the plus side at least we got advance warning and have a chance to wave toodles if need be.

Try and get a basic board set up asap, so we can all register and balls, then if Azz can get the details and we can transfer Iceyboard (or if we can contact Icey), that'd be ace.
