Rockstar are kindly redirecting the gouranga.com domain at the moment, but even if they decide to do something else with it in the future, we'll be here. Also it can’t be costing them any resources to redirect traffic? ------------------ I hope you like me and I fit in with your life.

I made a thread in ´06 celebrating that I got the last ever "The Two" award issued, in june 2002 I believe, which makes that eight years ago in a couple of months. I can't check, since it appears all the links have gone dead, is the forum the only thing still alive? EDIT: waybackmachine says 26/06/2002, along with Maindrian for the Kav-Cosmo Cosmosis This place taught me a lot about fiddly game modding and palettes, as well as arguing with british people, speaking of which, I still talk to John (JRS21) and I think I've still got both Maindrian and Mademan on MSN. I've actually relocated to the UK and I'm currently finishing up a BA (Hons.) in Graphic Design in London, allthough GTAzz likely has little to do with that, allthough GTA: London might. =) ------------------

I made a thread in ´06 celebrating that I got the last ever "The Two" award issued, in june 2002 I believe, which makes that eight years ago in a couple of months. Gouranga was, in fact, the first ever website I visited. Was also the first ever website I returned to, downloaded stuff from and printed out. The wallpapers of cars from Liberty City, San Andreas and Vice City where the first desktops I downloaded for my PC.

In my job making websites, "social networking" and "web 2.0" and "user-generated content" are presented as whizz-bang cool new wave amazement. But we were doing them last century. Geocities was MySpace. IRC was Twitter. A top-down, not-quite-3D, shoot-em-up with driving was a ground-breaking new formula.

That's what G! and GTA mean to me. Ahead of their time and still well-respected.

Incidentally
If anyone still plays the old GTA's, Sektor has an old-school GTA forum. A couple of dozen people still play and make stuff for GTA2 multiplayer. One of extremely few games to do full, realtime synchronisation between all joined players.

These days you can have 5-player games at single-player speeds with people on the coast of Europe. Pyro recently resurfaced with ideas to try new game modes. I still do a bit here and there. GTA2 Game Hunter is really quite refined, too.

The scene is small but it matures and evolves every year.

I have to agree with Patto, that a lot of it wasn't really about GTA (as I made cars for many years without ever really playing the game much) - but the banter and car talk was always good fun. I remember kan, the prodmeister 2000 (or similar incarnations), banning 10,000 pre-pubescent GTA3 people who discovered us... this place has been like background noise to my life - always there, even if I forget about it for a while. It's quite scary to think I was barely in my teens when I came across this site first and now I'm in my mid-twenties and I'm still coming back. This site is an online equivalent of Hotel California!
