Hah, so I'm never one to jump on bandwagons, technologically speaking. Would much rather see what's what, and plan. Hence today I finally watched a programme in HD for the first time. And it's rather splendid!
Bought myself a shiny new sony tv with freeview hd built in, just ordered a blu ray player on the cheap from ebuyer. Now I need to find some films to buy. I refuse to replace my 300+ dvd collection though, so I'll only buy decent films I really want. You know, like if they ever bother releasing the LotR extended editions ;)
Right then. Ready for the world cup, all is well..

I haven't watched any HD films or TV yet, but I do have an HDTV for the XBox... The best thing about it is being to plug a computer in and have it at a proper resolution!
The point I realised I needed an HDTV was playing Fallout 3 on my old CRT and within 5 minutes my eyes pouring as a result of trying to read tiny green glowing writing... Painful.

well worth watching films, just saw Die Hard on C4HD and it was spot on.
Don't have a games console (my ps2 died), but do have a macmini which will be relocating to the lounge once I get an appropriate cable. Big screen browsing, have it..

HD bothers me, it seems to me that in addition to buying a ridick expensive television, you also have to pay for a lot of extra things to get it to work right. And if you don't pay for that extra stuff, and hook regular cable up to you HD TV, the picture looks terrible.
I have cable through this fuckoff evil company called Comcast. A year or so ago, during this so-called "switch to digital (from analog)", Comcast constantly aired these commercials saying, "if you're a Comcast customer, you have nothing to worry about, and you don't need a digital converter box". Nothing to worry about, just sit there, do nothing, and you will continue to get cable as normal. BULLSHIT. They have been selectively removing channels from regular cable, and switching them to "digital broadcast only". Meaning you have to buy a fuckoff expensive converter box from Comcast, after they specifically said I would not.
One of the first channels to be removed from my cable lineup? Cartoon Network. One of the absolute most popular TV stations, not only popular with kids during the daytime, but they air cool shows like Futurama at night. So, they bump off Cartoon Network, because they KNOW they're going to have LEGIONS of children just BEGGING their parents to bring back the Cartoon Network channel, forcing the parents to shell out the money for one of those converter boxes.
I mean, seriously, like cartoons need some kind of goddamn digital box to be able to watch them? I mean, it's not exactly anything vivid or detailed picture going on, like it was LOTR or some other special effects extravaganza. It's goddamn shitty-ass animation like this... (this is the most loathesome program on the network IMO):
Know this, that one clip is funnier than you shall ever be in your life time.
You would do well to study it's ways and enter the human race with pride, otherwise there is only ruin and bad puns.
As for the whole hd/anal-log (yes i do puns as well) debate, it's going to happen anyway, they're already turning off the terrestrial signal here in the UK, the jump to HD to "ULTRA HD 3D Bitches with massive spinners" might be a little less worthwhile, but there's obvious gains. The studios just actually need to start filming in high def to warrant it really.
In the end, i don't give a shit what you do you bizarre yeti love child.
I don't understand why anybody would buy a flatscreen computer monitor, when I see even bigger flatscreen televisions for the same price that, presumably, you about hook your computer up to with an HDMI cable or something.

I heard that some people actually use their computers for work as well, and I guess I'd get a massive headache from coding and writing texts on a flatscreen TV.

Bullshit/maybe. I've done some recording work through my TV...
