Sup bitches? Hallo, anyone left? Yeah things went a bit quiet there for a while (cough years cough).

After a new car. My beamer is nice n all, but I've had it three years, making it five years old going on six, and the rear wheel drive is a bloody nightmare. Loose grip even when it's greasy like tonight, never mind snow and mud.

So I'm after something with four wheel drive that isn't an SUV, bloody things.

At the moment I'm looking at a jag x-type awd, an isuzu rodeo, or possibly a subaru legacy. About ten grand will be the limit, but doesn't have to be new.

Thoughts? And then any sensible ones? arf.

Si

Jags are surprisingly cheap. 2.5 litre V6, 35k on the clock, 6grand. 0-60 in less than 8 seconds too which is faster than my current car.

Have always had a thing for the legacy, failed to convince my dad to get one a few years ago (he went for a Vitara, gah. his current mazda 6 estate is ok though). Seem a younger car somehow than a jag.

Imprezas are nice of course, but unless you get the wrx what's the point, and I like cars that do more than 6mpg and need a service every twenty yards. Plus even at 31 with 6 years driving I'd still struggle to insure it.

I would go for any Subaru over the other options you posted.

Also, if you can't drive a RWD car in the winter, you've obviously got a vagina.

Also, Jags are cheap because they're pieces of shit.

He wants more then 6MPG.  Also Azz is a old man not a hoon.

I agree that he has a vag if he can't drive RWD in the wet.

Also I don't mind the Imprezas, you don't need some balls to the wall WRX STI SUPA DOOPER Edition for it to be a nice car. (Especially when your a old lady)

I still wonder what a Legacy saloon looks like at all, everybody in Germany who bought one seems to have gone for the estate version.

On the bad handling on snow, most BMW drivers here claim that they can improve the handling by driving around with 100 kgs of sand bags in the boot.

Why would you need sand in the trunk of a car?!

I've put sandbags in teh bed of my truck before - on fucking ICE!!!

        Pansy queer.

Anyway, why not buy a Mustang?

@Disco: They put the sand bags in to have some more weight on the rear axle and thus reduce wheel slip, it's not the sand that matters but the additional weight.
Do Mustangs exist in RHD versions at all?

@Azz: Subaru SVX would be an option, but they seem to eat a lot of brake disks I heard.

hehe, American's don't need to add sand bags, the car already has all the ballast it needs.

It's not the driving around that's the problem, out on the road and what not it's fine. It's getting into and out of an ungritted car park that has issues at work. At home is a pain in the arse since I have to reverse up a kerb onto grass, back wheels just dig in and spin unless you hit the kerb at speed. Not good for your alloys. BMWs do seem particularly bad at ice though, lost count of the number of abandoned ones I've seen this winter.

I like the old shape legacy before they gave it a face lift. Now it looks like a cast off from the Vauxhall range.

And the three litre one isn't as thirsty as you'd think.

I understand the concept of the sand bags - like I said, I put them in the bed of my pickup in the ICE sometimes.

I just don't see why you'd need it in a sedan with a near 50/50 distribution. You can drive in the slush without getting stuck.

As for the Mustang, who flippin' cares if it comes with RHD?! It's a fucking Mustang. With a modular V8. Get a blower on it and enjoy the tire-shredding lulz.

          Trust me, I know.

I guess the effect is mostly psychological for BMW drivers.

          Oh. great. two of them.

I can't change the car for a couple of months, and I'm moving house in a couple of weeks, so it'll be interesting to see how the bmw likes derbyshire. It'll be nice not to reverse up a kerb every morning if nothing else. Will be at the bottom of a steep newly laid drive though. meh.

Something without runflats would be good too, rough ride and the road noise is massive compared to normal tyres.

            Yeah, runflats are horrible.

I had them on the Mustang (spare tire carrier is taken up with ROUSH bits), but I bought some PS/2's and enjoyed the traction, comfort and quiet.

Even if you get something with runflats, just put regular tires on it. You'll know when you get a flat and, surely, they have some sort of AAA, Cross-Country or some other motorclub around there that will come and tow your ass.
