I never said that Japan deserved this because of Pearl Harbor - they got two decently-sized nukes as retribution for that.
I just think it's ridiculous that Japan asked us for help - and our government jumps to the aid. I'm tired of our government, already in debt and continuing to borrow against our trillions of dollars of deficit, bleeding money at every opportunity.
Any smart government would have said "well, we have no money - sorry!", but I guess the humanitarian thing to do would be to help them. I am not advocating that anyone should suffer when there is aid available - but why did Japan ask us? Why not the United Kingdom? Or Australia? Or China? Or Russia? Or anyone else?
Anyway, if whatever money we spend in providing aid is taken away from the money that we owe Japan, I think that's a fair trade. We bail them out and they relieve some of our debt - win/win.
That's all I'm saying.
They asked you because you're one of their largest allies and are responsible for much of their post war growth. A situation you've both benefited from.
And asking for debt relief in exchange for humanitarian aid is amoral. |
