    Holy shit.

    Can Valve make a bad game? Is that possible?

    Some interesting history. A really neat time capsule into the history of both Aperture and Black Mesa in this twisted trans-dimensional epoch.

    Mind. Freakin'. Blown.

    Why did I wait this long to play it? I should have bought a new computer right when the game came out.

    Oh. My. Lord.

    I don't think I could say enough good things about this. After watching the decline of...well, I don't want to ruin it. Suffice it to say that I'm so anxious for Half Life 2:E3 (or will it be HL3???) to come out that it feels like I have ants running around just beneath my skin. What was in that abandoned Aperture tanker??? What secret was Gordon about to unlock about Aperture's (arguably) more successful Portal bid for contract???

    How did Black Mesa acquire the same technology, but miss out on the AI? Oh, sweet Caroline...

    Just. Jesus.

    Go play it.

    It might be thirteen years in the making, but there are only a couple of other stories that are this engaging and deliciously perfect.

        		I loved portal, but the sequel is just so short. I'll get it when it's budget price but I'm not paying 20quid for 6 hours entertainment when I paid less than a fiver for Oblivion that lasted me 100+ hours.

        		I'm having another blatt on Morrowind to pass the time between now and Duke coming out. It's hilariously crusty. I am a thief. I've never tried being a thief before. Or a mage. Or anything other than a guy with a big sword that hits things a lot.

        My hope is that Duke is a massive, colourful success and totally and utterly destroys the grey/brown dullness of shite like Gears of War and (insert jingoistic war game du jour here).

          		Also, the door being open was the glitch, not it closing... Portal 2 was really, really, really, really good. Game of the year for me so far, but I haven't played L.A. Noire yet which looks as though it'll destroy pretty much every other game ever made. Portal 2 isn't as short as you think, but then it isn't that long, depends on how good you are at the puzzles I guess.

          Playing Crysis 2 (thankyou Love Film trial) at the moment, not really sure what to make of it, but it got pretty good last night. The story is just lacking a bit and you can only carry two guns at a time, which annoyings me unless it's a game like Battlefield where it makes sense, not a game where you're a superhuman cyborg who can't stick an extra gun or two of your back. Also when you die the checkpoints are fucking harsh, sending you pretty far back and often when you die, it's not entirely your fault...

            No, the door is open so you can advance to the next test sphere. The fact that I could pass through it while it was closing was the glitch.

            It closes behind you to force you through the next sphere.

            I think that's what's missing from modern games, the juvenile factor. GTA has never been the same since they took the fart/burp button out.

            Greatest juvenile game ever; How to be a Complete Bastard on the ZX Spectrum. Run around a house party, eat a shitload of curry, stab somebody in the leg with a pen and DIE FROM EXPLOSIVE FARTING. I don't think there was any actual way of beating it since every action you took seemed to lead to death or arrest.

            I brought Edmondson's book, The Gobbler a few years back. Christ, it was bitter, nasty, angry stuff. I don't think I'll count penis-skewered-by-sharpened-feather as my preferred means of going out in the world.

            I don't really care THAT much, but that door was closed when I played the game and there is a way past it if you think hard enough. And given that the game is pretty well designed I don't think you'd be able to get past that door if you weren't MEANT to figure out how to get past it. The forcefield thingy is enough to force you into the next room because that's what happens at the end of every other puzzle in the whole game.
