Using Xbox controller with GTAIV for PC?

ameer cunt smasher! Joined: Feb '03 Posts: 3,063	Hey guys, I've been playing GTA Floor and TBOGT on my lappytoppy, but I'm getting really sick of having to use a mouse. I tried plugging in my generic USB controller, but quickly realized this wasn't supported. On the controller screen of the pause screen, there's an Xbox controller, so obviously, Xbox controllers are supported with the PC version. How do I hook up an Xbox controller to my laptop? The plug on them isn't USB or anything that can hook up to a PC. ------------------

I think they support the Xbox360 controller, the wired one has an usb plug. If you want to use the wireless one, you need a special wireless connection kit for your PC, which I remember costs around 20€ here, so I guess it's $20 in the US. It hooks up to your USB port and allows you to link 4 wireless 360 controllers with your PC.

To check that we're talking about the same things, we are talking about Xbox 360 controllers here, and not the ones for the big old brick-shaped first XBox, which have some really wierd non-standard controller that nobody else ever used.

I've got both variants of Xbox 360 controllers at home, I'll try to post some pictures for you when I'm done at work.

But now from your post I realize that I've been looking at original Xbox controllers. For some reason when I went to the used game shop, I only saw these.

If I can find a wired Xbox 360 controller, it'll just end with a simple USB port eh?

Exactly, they've got the simple off-the-shelf usb plug.

Apparantly, Amazon sells the wired version for 30$.

They're pretty sweet as you can use them for all sorts of stuff like emulators... When it comes to emulators though I think the Street Fighter IV pad would be the best... Yeah, it's literally a 360 pad with a USB on the end. I think the full name is XBox 360 Wired Controller.

Deleted Member	I told you to get an sexbawks 360 controller, noob. Even the wireless ones have USB plugs for the charging. But I don't think the data goes through the USB on the wireless ones. So don't get a wireless one.

If you want the wireless one you need the "xbox360 wireless for PC" kit that includes the adapter, over here it's about $20 more than a standard wireless controller. And yes, the PC box of GTA4 has a picture of the xbox 360 controller on the back, I'm looking at getting one for Dirt 3.
