I have a pair of Mordaunt-Short Festival II. They are absolutely incredible. They're really high-end speakers from the 70s... I played a 40Hz test tone through them pretty loud, could barely hear it in my room, but the windows of my house and the house next door were flexing and wobbling, pretty amazing.
Just to chip in on a 7-year-old thread, haha.
Got DAMN- this thread really is 7 years old! Almost 8 years old! Unbelievable!
Vintage stereos are awesome. My setup is just what I've found in my garage- basically my parent's old stuff. The speakers are Omega which is a good brand I guess (though maybe that only applies to watches), but they sound like 'meh' and the paper cones are old torn up. For me, the only thing going for my vintage setup is the fact that it's vintage- not for the sound quality. So, Jerome, to have a vintage setup that actually SOUNDS GOOD, that's freakin awesome.
My better-quality-more-modern stereo is actually still pretty old... but not as old as this thread. In my OP I'm talking about an Emerson stereo... I don't remember what the problem I had with that was, but for some reason, I ended up returning it, and I got this basic Sony combo thing. I never really listen to music on it anymore though- all I use it for is watching movies on my laptop with.
Now, all my music listening is either done with my shitty laptop speakers, my iPod, or my car stereo.
EDIT: I actually just READ my OP, and I explain why I returned the Emerson stereo. When I returned it, I got the Sony stereo that I still have today. So my good stereo is exactly as old as this thread, minus a few weeks. Huh... myself from 8 years in the past just explained something to myself in the present. ------------------
