ameer cunt smasher! Joined: Feb '03 Posts: 3,063	I dunno if any of you guys heard about this, but this has been a huge problem the last couple weeks. Monday the 5th to Wednesday the 8th was the worst of it. I heard about this on the news, but didn't really think too much of it. Forest fires happen all the time, and Texas is a big place. It didn't really hit home until I was driving to work that Wednesday, and realized the entire sky to the west was filled with smoke originating from a place on the ground to the northwest. The next couple days, the air in my neighborhood and all over the city was visibly hazy with dormant smoke. Disco Joined: Aug '11 Posts: 73	It hit pretty close to home this last week. The fires in Magnolia and Montgomery County freaked me out enough - but the fire in George Bush Park (hwy 6 and Westheimer, right behind my dad's house (sort-of)) was so bad that it was raining ash yesterday. Shit's weak.

There are a lot of trees and some pretty wooded areas, but Texas is a pretty dry place (even without the help from this devilish drought). What's interesting is just how quickly these fires spread. They don't so much spread as they just EXPLODE. All of the deader-than-doorknob trees are like shaved kindling - and they've been dried out for nearly a year (January was the last measurable rainfall in many parts of Texas), so it's like cheating with lighter fluid and strike-anywhere matches. The trees just get ENGULFED. EDIT - Flood control? Since when do we have flood control? I can't post more than two replies in the same topic in an hour? That's chickenshit bullshit. Anyway, I was going to say that I guess I can't make fun of California for being perpetually on fire anymore. This shit sucks.
