Hi
The classic Japanese racing rim of the 60's in the Watanabe, the 8 spoke wheel that comes in various colours (black is the classic colour) and is EXTEMELY light.

Anyway, they're also very expensive. New they cost around 200$ per wheel, then you have to pay shipping.

My dad recently asked me what wheels I'm going to buy for my Ken&Mary 240K, and when I told him they would be black, he was disgusted! He doesn't like black wheels... A few of my friends have also asked why the hell I would want black wheels. I think they're great looking, and they are THE wheel to have if you own a classic Japanese car.

Anyway, I just wondered what you guys thought... here are some pics to let you know what the "black bananas" wheel looks like.

- Nissan "Godzilla" Skyline R32 GT-R
- Nissan "Hakosuka" Skyline C10 GT-R
- Nissan Fairlady Z
- Suzuki Cappaccino
- Toyota Celica RA22 GT

and finally, you're lucky to see one of these without black Watanabes... it's just damn hard to find a pic of one on the net

Personally, i love em, on anything pre 90's that is, after that they just look silly.

They're quite stylish, and in Aus, they're a bit of a rareity so you wouldn't look like too much of a tryhard, every man and his dog has them in Japan. But definately worth the price.

They look especialy nice on one of my favourite Japanese cars...

Hmmm

For light paintwork, yes.
For dark paintwork, no.

Gold alloys with black / dark paint work is a definite yes for me,  Supra RZ decked out in this composure being a good example - not gonna fit every car, but then I don't want every car ;)  failing that, silver always goes with the chrome rails...

But then I have no taste ;)

jues.

I acually came in here with the intention of voting yes to the black hubs, but after the pictures i was tempted to go with no. Black rims look great on a racing car, but i'd  rather go with a set i could see my self in.

jjhw, I feel your frustration...

That's half the reason I posted this - just to see what people's tastes are.

I personaly love these type of wheels, I think they look great on a 70's Japanese car. I quite like classic Japanese cars, I'd love to get my hands on a Datsun 280C.

I know, I recently did as part of a school project the Skyline family tree, and some areas, especially the 70's estates, had to be filled with Pic Not Available. :%

I agree with the opinions posted thus far, yes for light paint, no for dark paint. They do look very nice on that Z, they suit the car a lot. :)

Black wheels ARE cool, there rare, light and cool, i think they look good but only on certain cars but i think they look better with a bit of yellow righting on them aswel, i.e O.Z Racing etc.

I said no, but the only reason I said no is because I've never been a fan of black wheels. I think it'd work good if your trying to go for that very authentic oldschool Japanese look, but otherwise, I'm not a big fan of any color other then silver for wheelies.

Then again, the moment I'm considered a car buff is the moment we're all fucked.

I've always admired the sporty racing look, oz racing being a big favourite of mine.

But please, for god sakes, NO CHROMIES. They are the ultimate tryhard shitehouse.

Unfortunately your wheels will be worth more then your car...so your car will really be "Your set of wheels"...
