Well, i've just got back online after a reformat. Took 40 mins to set it all up, not bad for XP.

Anyway, the other day i sound a hidden folder called sharedDocs in my C directory and just ignored it, looked ok to me. Then i went on winmx and it started updating shared files, but id set it not to share as im on a 56k. Next thing i see its sharing this shared docs folder. The shared docs folder is full of .exe's with names like Adult Move and Pam and Tommt lee and other files an gimp might want to download but they are just renamed versions of a virus, by this time i was interested in Christina aguilera givin a bj and so i activated the virus.
I uninstalled WinMx and deleted the shareDocs folder and restarted my machine. The Shared docs folder was re written to my computer. Bastard thing. I musta been located in the boot sector and no virus checkers could get at it. I've reformatted it and its fine now.

Enable the option to see hidden folders and check out your machines! It could prove fatal as boot sector viruses can damage your hdd at anytime programmed in so be carefull.

Windows XP is supposed to have a SharedDocs folder.  Mine never has any inappropriate material.  It's basically for more than one username and you can put files in there and people on other usernames can access it.

I think.

Yeah but by default it's shared on your network and *anyone* can write to it as well as read from it. Hence a lot of viruses copy themselves to it - the bigger the network, the more likely you are to have the problem. It's probably not WinMX doing it, as that doesn't support non-requested downloads afaik.
The simple way to fix the problem is just to stop it being shared and make sure that on the rest of your shares no public writing is allowed.
