Hey all.

I've spent the last few hours trying to fix things, and I think we may have action. Few points though:

Firstly the backup was taken about a week before the old server died. Sorry about that, but the old server closed before we managed a second backup. This means obviously some posts will have been lost, but hopefully not many.
If you're a new user and can't login, this could be why..

Secondly, I've just had to do some rather quick (hah) and dirty hacking to get the forums working with the new settings on the new server. This means things may or may not work. I've tested most of the features and so far the only one I've found that won't work is Logout, which isn't really vital so I'll work on it but not tonight.

If you find problems with the board please let me know what you were doing and what went wrong.

I'd like to think I know a fair bit of php, but at the end of the day this is Icey's script and he seems to share every programmers' aversion to comments, so I'm paddling up stream without a map (but plenty of crossed metaphors).

So yeah, bear with us and lend a hand if anything is wibbled. Any php experts make thyselves known.

Danke,
Azz

[ignore me - i'm not actually here]

I've fixed logging in and out.

The files are seriously lacking in comments but everything I write now has much better structure and is fully commented. smile

Ah, you the man. Don't suppose you want to let me know which bit in external you changed, just so I can have a nosey at the source to see what was fixed? smile

Cheers for the help, and sorry for the crude fixes I made to your code lol. (hardcoding variables, moi? never)

Is this just a server move, or have thiere been extensive changes to the mechanicals of how Iceyboard now works?  I notice we seem to have grown up by a a few revision numbers, anything especially significant in that? smile

This would probably be a fitting time for me to mention (yet again) that I'm totally willing to re-do/scrap the Tropical skin I made for you guys and create GrandTheftAuto and London 1969 themes, which are the same two themes I'm making for the Invision system over at GTAForums.

The basic scheme behind the GrandTheftAuto skin can be navigated around here but, of course, the skins for Iceyboard are just CSS alterations so I'll carry the theme over but not the actual code stuff.  Well, if I'm allowed that is.

Would I require a new skinning type pack for these new versions?  I'll need to discover a GFX'er.  Although Illspirit has expressed an interest in decorating the GTAForums.com versions, I'm not sure if he'd make G! variants as well.  Bah, if he doesn't he'll have to suffer...can't abandon G! :S

erm, I don't think I can answer any of those questions and I get the feeling icey's back on vacation..

I don't think anything has changed as far as skinning goes, and I know for one I'd like to see a GTA London skin. I'd let you know what I think of the one at that site, but erm, doesn't load for me smile

Azz: Nothing complicated, just changed the host in the cookie header bit to "forums.gouranga.com" and that was it smile

Cerbera: The forum has been version 1.0.5 for a while, I haven't made any changes recently.

because $settings['forum_path'] doesn't work? ah.

Probably should have known that, what with me changing something else to get round that.

Any idea why it doesn't work?

Yeah, the test site has been a bit temperamental over the last week or so.  It does work, it's just very selective about when. confused

    Cerbera, you've done nothing but ignore all bad publicity about your skins, ESPECIALLY the latest one.  For any people interested in reading some quality Cerbera 'logic', click here

    Be thankful that the orange and black retina burning skin of death is gone.  It's now replace with a blue and white version :/

    I'm in the preliminary stages of the London 1969 theme.  I'm currently just trawling through the templates making sure column widths do actually add up to 100%, removing old macros, checking that the right CSS class is being used, that sort of thing. smile

    (EDIT)  Oh, not a good idea to think that Azkoyen knows more about this skin than I do.  The GTA1 and London 1969 skins are seperate schemes sharing HTML templates, neither replaces the other.

    The pits are down the tube and to the left, don't rag on Cerby just because he's graphically challenged.

    I thought those skins looked pretty good, actually.  An antidote to trendwhore gradients and needless graphical clutter. smile

    On the subject of clutter, I notice the HTML which Iceyboard generates contains a great deal of spaces from indentation.  Removing all that indentation would make pages much smaller and this means everything becomes faster for the user.  Also makes load on the server bandwidth and CPU much less.

    Good suggestion.

    I've removed my debug comments from the top of the code and all the whitespace from the css files since they were the worst offenders. Removed some of the space from other pages as well.

    Hey, I just noticed this in the source for this page:Code:
    faster for the user.  Also makes load on the server
    Killer, you've made it support grammatically correct double-spaces. smile

    If you can supply me with the things I need to make the pair of GTA skins (such as CSS and the images I could replace) I could do that over next week, I expect.

    (EDIT)  Ah, the CODE tag is meant to show that there is a space, then an "nbsp" type character.  Can you make the contents of a CODE tag avoid being fiddled with by the HTML stuff in browsers?  Might mean using something like a DIV instead of a table, perhaps?

    I fixed the double spacing ages ago Cerbera!

    And symbols in code should be fixed now, testing:

    Code:
    void main()
    {
      AssignCommand(OBJECT_SELF, ActionSpeakString("This is a space character:  "));
      AssignCommand(OBJECT_SELF, ActionDoCommand(StartNewModule("This is an amp character: &")));
    }

    This should not be converted to bold

    [b]hello world[/b]

    This is a space character:

    This is a few space characters

        This line has four real spaces before it.

    I sent you a PM about this a couple of days back.  As GTAForums isn't back online yet, you could show off your ideas for the G! images in this thread, perhaps? :S
