| my post from a.g.gta:
Well, I have it. Of course the Bradygames strategy guide was available at the store on the night of release, and it's a doozie (272 pages).
I played the first series of missions and did a few little odd jobs.
My first impression is that there are not TOO many innovations above GTA:VC, at least not as evidenced by the initial missions. The look and feel is about the same. I think this is because VC pushed the envelope of what the PS2 could do graphically. During a high speed bridge crossing, I managed to see some blurred-out unrendered street beneath my vehicle.
Some random observations: You can control the changing of camera angles in "Cinematic Mode" view. You can mark the map (as I stated in other post). Instead of hidden packages, You have separate collection tasks for each of the 3 towns: Los Santos = spraypaint locations; San Fierro = photo ops; Las Venturas = collect horseshoes; in the water = oysters! You cannot pickup hearts for health. You must eat. There are still armors and cop bribes and pay-n-sprays.
There is (too much?) dress-up in this game. Your haircut and clothes choices determine your sex appeal and your repsect given to you by gang members. Same with your car. Jeez.
Lazlow IS back! Voices of Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Penn as cops are obvious at the start. I just knew the 'Colors' take-off would be in here!
To get 100%: all missions, all properties, all assets for properties, all save houses, all collections (see above). You do not need to do the emergency vehicle stuff to get 100% (doesn't seem like 100% then!) but you still earn fireproof, 150 health, 150 armor.
On page 1 of the strategy guide, they misspelled rappel (as in SWAT dropping) as 'repel'...duh. OK, minor point.
You build up skills in just about everything. Individual weapon skill, driving, biking, running, etc...all build up with usage. Higher weapon skills enable move-while-aimed and improved lock-on range and accuracy.
Still no real Jeep...only the faggy Wranglers-type. Bring back the military (real) Jeep from GTA1.
Burglar missions when you locate the sinister black Boxville vehicles.
Each vehicle has a sex appeal rating.
19 types of aircraft.
Driving school (also for boats and bikes and planes)
Same arena games.
Pimping.
2 Player games. Arcade games.
Hide in the dark.
Just found this detail: Radio Auto-tune when changing vehicles.
Kent Paul.
That's all for now...back to playing! |
