Just reading  TheReg, as you do, and noticed an article about Washington State banning the sales of violent games to minors. Nothing new there particularly, since guidelines regarding underage gamers have been in place for a while now.

Couple things worth noting are that Vice City was mentioned by name, obviously our beloved series has become the epitomy of "evil" games. Yay us.

Secondly the ban will be supported by a $500 fine, levied on games retail employees who make the sale.

You can read the full article  here

Sounds like they are actually targeting GTA. I guess the state of Washington is afraid that people will take the game so seriously, that they'll actually commit crimes. I haven't heard of any cases were somebody shot a real cop, and said they did it because they saw it done in a game. Just because you can kill prostitutes in GTA, doesn't mean that we'll beat women.

And just what is wour definition of "fun"?

How would a pedophile define "fun"?

About time the law is getting around America, hell when I was a kid I grew up with my parents and "dinky" cars, not being babysat by the TV and playing video games.

Kids these days are messed up enough.

That law is really gay. I mean big deal if someone sales an 'M' rated game to minor. What's so bad about that? I just don't see the point of the law except to piss young people off. :#@

Anyone who goes around shooting cops and commiting crimes just cuz "I saw it in a video game" is a certified retard.

Games like this are fantastic because you can do things you would never do in your real life and have a lot of fun doing it. Thats what makes games like this so appealing.

Most people get a good laugh from this game not a criminal plot. And if anything i think it is a good way to get crime and crap out of your system so you wont do it in reality (not that any of us reading this has to vent their crime in a video game)

Over all, id say this new law isnt so bad. If the law pisses off 1000 kids and keeps 1 mentaly challenged nut from grabbing his AK-47 and shooting up an albertsons id say its worth it.

No offense intended if anyone was offended.

well, to piss off all minors I guess my opinion must be heard, you want to pass your opinion to me, do it through your parents, if ya can't convince them, you certainly won't convice me.  And as far as the government is concerned, untill your 18 and as long as your not commiting crimes, you don't have a name, your not even a real human, your just a number, your just listed as minor(s) in household on the census.

Maybe $500 is tough but it's the law. Why bother having age ratings for games if they aren't enforceable? It's a law, you break it you get punished. If not you might as well start selling VC to anyone who wanted to buy it.

It doesn't matter anyway, I just get my parents to buy 18s for me...

All the games shops think I've 15 anyway...

Like the shops actually check for ID. I was buying porn at 14. When I turned the legal age to purchase alcohol, No one ever asked how old I am.

So, is a video game store really going to not sell you a $50 game because of your age? The store is just trying to make a profit. If anything it's the goverment that is trying to collect in on it.

Think about it. There are games more violent than ViceCity. And GTA III and ViceCity are both top selling games. The politics are just trying to get more money from them.

The stores can buy games at around $10-$15 apiece in bulk, then sell them at $40-$50. So as long as they are able to sell everything they have in stock, they make a profit. But the Governments are funded by taxes ( % on the dollar)

So either the Government can collect around $4 in taxes per game on a top selling video game, or collect a few hundred dollars in fines everytime a minor buys it.
