EPIC CONCLUSION TIME (Webcomics Thread)

So, this thing happened.

Don't know about you, but I shed a tear.

A funny comic about videogames, ladies and gents.

Re: EPIC CONCLUSION TIME (Webcomics Thread)

I have no idea WTF is going on AT ALL.

Also I thought everyone hated this comic because it was shit?

Is it finally over for good or something?

Re: EPIC CONCLUSION TIME (Webcomics Thread)

Short version; Ethan (hateful videogame obsessed dickhead with a disgusting looking haircut) goes to the future in a time machine powered by butter and it's the robot apocalypse. He finds out his girlfriend died horribly and shows no interest at all, instead choosing to gawp at a videogames shop full of future games. Then some dull runaround nonsense happens and this ending comes out of nowhere. The basic thread of this ending is that he could possibly be erased from his own timeline so his girlfriend won't die, but he'll have just disappeared from her life. A lovely idea in theory, but the problem is that Tim Buckley is a completely useless ham-handed writer and his characters all look like bargain basement muppets. Also a butter powered time machine. I really, really hope it's the end because it's a perfect final spurt of pure shit from the creative anus of a truly hateful human being.

I'll be honest, I read this rubbish avidly. This and Dominic fucking Deegan, just so I can sneer and use them as a guide of what not to do in writing a narrative. Everything about them is packed with examples. For instance...

How not to introduce yourself to the world.

How not to construct jokes.

How not to tackle a topical subject.

How not to tackle a topical subject. (TL;DR version)

And of course, most famous of all...

How not to attempt serious drama.

Did she have a miscarriage?

Re: EPIC CONCLUSION TIME (Webcomics Thread)

Yes. She had a miscarriage. She had a miscarriage, in this comic about video game jokes.

I'd also like to point out that as of last month, he's been doing this ten years with absolutely no improvement! Even the art has somehow gotten worse.

Re: EPIC CONCLUSION TIME (Webcomics Thread)

She had a miscarriage and then he didn't give two fucks about her when he realized she died horribly?

Well, now I'm in a bad mood. Did the author go through a miscarriage himself?

Re: EPIC CONCLUSION TIME (Webcomics Thread)

He claims he did. Naturally, this being Buckley, he did so in the most asshole way possible. This is just a short section of his defense of the comic.

"Some many years ago, long before I started the comic, I was in a relationship and we suffered a miscarriage. Now, this relationship was toxic to begin with and doomed to fail regardless, so that the miscarriage was the straw that broke the camel's back came as no surprise."

If you read between the lines, it basically sounds like; "Hated her, was looking for an excuse, found it." He often comes across as a callous, unthinking piece of shit at best. I'd link the whole thing, but as usual, TL;DR. He's got an amazing habit of using a billion paragraphs to sum up something that could be said in a couple. His attempts at reviewing videogames are appallingly indecisive and often boil down to; "It's not the best thing ever, but it's good."

Also, legend has it, he flashes minors. Never really found any proof of that though, just hearsay.

Re: EPIC CONCLUSION TIME (Webcomics Thread)

Well, if he's twenty-four, how many many years ago did this tragic relationship happen? When he was sixteen? Of course he was a dipshit about the miscarriage - he was probably so relieved.

There's also this. Touge and I were discussing covering one of these as a pre-movie short. I think there's a lot to cover.

Re: EPIC CONCLUSION TIME (Webcomics Thread)

I can't believe I used to actually think this comic was any good. I have to say, I do somewhat like his new art style (well everything except the B^U faces) but I don't miss the long drawn out story arcs and comics that are 90% text. I also found it entertaining seeing some of the people I follow on twitter just laughing their asses off over this, really I would have to agree.

Example:

Oh my god. So, I read his long, drawn out news post last night about how he wanted to reboot the comic and do new and interesting things and I wake up this morning and...

Re: EPIC CONCLUSION TIME (Webcomics Thread)

Nah, it's one of Buckley's "Average Guy" hash ups. I'm puzzled as to why he's playing a game like that though. Especially since he doesn't look unwashed or mentally disturbed enough to be a brony. I love the sense of motion he conveys. Or rather, the lack of it. You only know he's tapping on that... Etch-a-sketch (?) because of  "Tap! Tap! Tap! Tap! Tap! Tap!" The teeth are disturbing to say the least.

I love it. A fresh new start and it goes right back to violent-death-as-punchline non-joke. Tim Buckley is the gift that keeps on giving to a lover of utter crap like myself.

Fffffff... By popular demand. Supposedly.

Poochie needs to be louder, angrier, and have access to a time machine. Whenever Poochie's not on screen, all the other characters should be asking "Where's Poochie"?

(NOTE: Poochie died on the way back to his home planet.)

Re: EPIC CONCLUSION TIME (Webcomics Thread)

Isn't that the anime that ends with EVERYTHING CEASES TO EXIST or something? Semi-suitable.

I've just realised, Dominic Deegan is ending within the next few months. Hell's teeth, it's like watching a slow motion train crash. The engine car is bursting into flames, the carriages are buckling and within a few months, it'll be little more than a half mile long trail of devastation, death and escaped poultry. It's beautiful.

Re: EPIC CONCLUSION TIME (Webcomics Thread)

I don't know what it is - whether it's the fact that this is the longest we've ever stayed on-topic and civil or it's our common disgust for stupidity - but this thread gives me the warm fuzzies.

^ That was so damn funny, especially when it started cycling through all the different versions of Liliah. That video, however, had me come across this which I find confusing but it's still better than B^Uckleys shit

So far, so bland. On the other hand, the reception on his forums is amazingly critical. That's not normal, the guy takes no criticism and is even heavier on the banhammer than Needles ever was. I'm thinking any day now, he'll crack and wipe the place out again. To his credit, so far, he's actually been uncharacteristically courteous and polite about it, although his defense was amusingly muddled. I can only express some small delight that he's chosen to make the Players the focus of the comic as they're terrible, terrible characters. Especially Player 4, the girl whose sole characteristic is pulling whacky faces and saying things like "'SPLODED". And pointless violence. They all commit acts of pointless violence. That's the joke.

Really fill you full of Christmas spirit, don't they?

Heard a podcast with Scott Kurtz and some other webcomic artists discussing the recent events and Christ, Kurtz is blunt, isn't he? He outright states that he believes Buckley probably beats his wife.
