Re: What have we been listening to this month?

Robert Earl Keen Jr. - arguably the best and most influential songwriter to come out of Texas (also I saw him in concert fairly recently)

Tom Petty - quintessential stoner music, my frients

The Band Perry - 1) she's cute and 2) it's good music, fuck you. Check out their new single 'Better Dig Two'. Also recently saw them in concert.

Big Tymers with the life story of all of my customers

Mike Jones, Chamillionaire and Magno - Houston's own

Slim Thug et. al. - Houston, bitches

Don't actually hate them or anything, but this is the first thing I think of when anybody mentions them.

Also, I have to pull this album out at least once a month. Simply for a Willie Dowling fix to substitute for not owning a copy of Honeycrack's album on CD like Azz had. I've still got it on cassette, but it's basically unplayable.

Azz, you're a jammy git.

Amazon? What witchcraft is this?

So, did you hear Ginger's 100/555% album? If so, what did you think? I'm currently of the opinion he could basically turn himself to doing an album full of George Formby songs and would still find a way to make them utterly brilliant. The guy's got a musical golden touch.

I really liked this song & album but then I listened to it too many times.

Instead of posting the actual video, which is lame, I am going to post this video, which is dope.

I find that in forum threads where people want to share music, everybody just posts music they like, and nobody ever listens to anyone else's music.

Can confirm, that's exactly what I did.

Re: What have we been listening to this month?

Yeah, well I listen to stuff here. Which would explain why I've been listening to that Tame Impala album on and off for the last month or so. It's FUCKING WEIRD. It sounds like The Beatles jamming with Add N to (x), remixed by the Chemical Brothers.

Been listening to a devastating amount of The Who, particuarly Quadrophenia. Just suits my mood at the moment.

My last song from Happy Hardcore genre. Yes, you can say that I'm fucked up... Anyway, imagine visiting such topics in 1998 with Pentium II 333mhz with dial up. Pain in the ass.

This is amazing. I'm going to link it to Touge and it's going to be his new favourite anything, ever.

Feels like being back in the 90s again, when you would turn on the TV to some music channel and stuff like that would be playing the whole day.

This. Just this. Every day for the last week at any given chance.

They've never done an album I didn't like. I heard people dissing the Era Vulgaris, but that's FUCKING INSANE.

I was being facetious. I really miss waking up early before the school bus to catch the latest 'Reanimation' single release from Linkin Park.

Man, I was a terrible child.

Hey, Deadmau5 is great. Strobe is great.

Shit just makes me think of a Blade Runner-esque cityscape. Rave Runner, if you will. I love the guy. I love his wierd little poke at Boards of Canada. I love that he sampled Tim Follin in one of his songs.

Re: What have we been listening to this month?

I must be the only person on the planet who doesn't 'get' dubstep.

Sure, there are a few songs I like - but the vast majority is just noise. It's nothing but noise and it's terrible and asynchronous and I can't stand it.

Just bass. It's an entire genre of music dedicated to nothing but pissing everybody else off.

I can't fucking stand it.

Re: What have we been listening to this month?

Deadmau5 isn't dubstep. Like, at all. It's pretty much just standard dance music perfected. Give Strobe a proper listen and tell me it's just bass and noise. It's actually quite melancholic and beautiful.

On the other hand, I like Dubstep because it finally feels like electronic music has climbed into the shoes of wasted, laughably pathetic heavy metal and done a runner. Once was the day I used to get my aggressive rocks off to something like Sepultura and I'll always love 'em, but they just sound wimpy and comical now. So instead, I'll fire up some Skrillex and bang my head to that instead.

Metal fucking stinks now. It used to be all I cared about. Nu-Metal shit the bed, everything since has been terrible L.A. guyliner glam rock novelty shite and really bad "operatic" metal played by strangely bearded men from Norway. Usually with a female singer who sounds more suited to ABBA songs and an orchestra.

2:28: As good as any metal riff break I've ever heard.

(I'd like to add that sure, there's probably lots of good metal out there still, I quite like Ahab for instance, but it's not exactly fast paced. Also, I may have a bias since I tend to look at stuff like Skrillex as more of a mainstream version of Aphex Twin, who I love. And that really is noise a lot of the time.)

Re: What have we been listening to this month?

In the same respect that I'd hardly (if ever, though some earlier Metallica is always appreciated) call metal 'music', I'd hardly call dubstep 'music', so I guess your comparison is fair.

You know as well as the next guy that I like electronic music. In fact, I like most genres of music.

But I get so sick and fucking tired of "YO OH MY GOD WHAT THE FUCK BONFIRE WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" and then nothing but out-of-rhythm electronic screeches and WUBWUBWUBWUBWUB. There's no depth, meaning, feeling, profound statement or even a fun story - it's just fucking noise.

Ever been to a dubstep 'show'? I've been to a couple. It's just some fucking neckbeard that wouldn't get a second glance in real life (and who probably hasn't bathed in months) sitting in front of a computer, hitting the 'play' button, then holding headphones up with one hand and alternating between FIST PUMPS and hitting the 'distort key' for an hour or two.

It's the stupidest and most embarrassing thing to ever happen to music.

EDIT - I'd like to add that, in order to make the comparison between metal and dubstep, I liken the 'SCREEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAM UGGGHHHHHH FLUHHHHHHHHH HNNNNGGGGG GRUNT' to all of the stupid shit dubstep keeps pushing.
