Re: What have we been listening to this month?

Eh, honestly, as I said, I like it, I don't love it. I've got like, one EP somebody got me as a christmas present. I can totally recognise it's discardable stuff I probably won't like later on in life. Fuck, I'd be hard pushed to bother with early Metallica these days. That said, I did like that LULU thing they did last year with Lou Reed. Not because it was good, just because of the sheer amount of anger it caused. Metallica fans are the worst fans ever. If I was as rich and above it all as them, I'd probably spend my time fucking with the fans too.

But holy shit, this Queens of the Stone Age album. Fucking hell is it sex.

Re: What have we been listening to this month?

I think my definitions have changed too though. Once was the time, sure, I was all about the big noise, but ever since discovering stuff like The Pixies, I've fair written off a lot of aggressive "noise" music as something not to be taken seriously. For instance...

... I find that a lot "heavier" than any metal album. Also, it gives me what I can only describe as a fear boner.

Re: What have we been listening to this month?

I used to listen to so much shit.

3 Doors Down, KoRn, you name it.

Sometimes I just sit there and think "WTF WAS WRONG WITH ME?!" - I certainly can't stand to listen to more than a minute or so of it.

Re: What have we been listening to this month?

Oh, fucking hell, I've got several Korn and Limp Bizkit albums tucked away, mouldering in the dust. I think my biggest musical shame is that I own Wes Borland's stupid BigDumbFace album. It's even dumber than the title implies.

Yeah, THAT dumb. What's worse is I tend to pull it out (hurr hurr) and listen to it quite a bit. I like to bathe in its badness.

I still like the Deftones though, that's the one band from the era that holds up really well. Probably because they had a bit of art to their music. Yeah, there was a lot of screaming, but there was also a huge dose of atmosphere. Their latest album was really good.

THAT OPENING.

Totes forgot about Limp Bizkit. I was into them, too. *shudder*

Yes, I have to admit, I have also some Limp Bizkit and Korn albums stashed away in a dark corner of my past... odd confusion of taste back then.

I don't know about you, but I shower everyday. I can get you pictures and a graph if need be.

I listen to a lot of Infected Mushroom. Those are two Israelis who know how to not be repetititititive in their music. I don't think anyone here has any interest in trance music so I'll avoid the YouTube tags.

Edit: Fuck it, listen to the poets

Christ. I take it back. BigDumbFace is a fucking masterpiece compared to that and I'm proud to own it.

Disco, as far as electronic stuff goes, does this kind of thing float your boat?

I really dig chill stuff. Boards of Canada particuarly.

Re: What have we been listening to this month?

Why? It's quite moody and all, but come on. As I said on the last page, the whole thing just reminds me of futuristic, rainy cityscapes.

The only song that ever scared the shit out of me was a cover of Husker Du's "Diane" by Therapy?. It starts off badly. A very quiet, distant, echoing noise that may or may not be a scream, but always sets my teeth on edge. Then the melancholy strings come in, then he starts describing what he's going to do to Diane and... Yeah, it's possibly the most upsetting song I've ever heard.

I shan't link it because it will royally destroy a good mood, but if you want the funny thing about it, it comes immediately after this song on the album...

So imagine going from that high energy pop rock to a soundscape of pure terror, followed by a string quartet and a guy singing about raping and murdering a girl.

It's a fucking intense album to say the least.

Re: What have we been listening to this month?

Adam, for years I've tried to find that one B-side version of 'Diane' that (IIRC) you and Touge used to make that G! video all of those years ago.

I liked the clip I heard, but I haven't ever been able to find it.

Plz halp kthx?

And I'll listen to that electronic clip later - I'm sorry I haven't had the time yet.

Re: What have we been listening to this month?

Oh, crikey, I forgot that version existed. It's the b-side to this...

...So, yet again, from lovely, giddy joy to...

...Let's all feel fucking horrid.

I still love Therapy?. They've faded into obscurity, all their releases are super low key nowadays, yet they're all solid albums. They haven't done anything I haven't liked. Or, if I've reacted badly to it, it's later grown on me.

Bob Marley is pretty damn cool, but if I want to be popular I have to disagree with you right?

Man, do what you want. Bob Marley is pretty damn huge for me. It's beyond music and too powerful of an influence over me.
