Top Gear

Jesus Christ, that was TERRIBLE.

Remember that one Simpsons episode where Marge gets to write Itchy and Scratchy and the end result is a pukey love-fest that kids don't want to watch? Yeah, very similar result here. Absolutely no edge, just awkward, uncomfortable perkiness and stilted banter. As ropey as it was before, this new series really made me appreciate the snarky chemistry of messers Clarkson and co.

It looks cheap as fuck as well. Given the way the government is slowly gutting the BBC, not much of a suprise.

Re: Top Gear

I think the absolute lowest point was one of the rubbish segments ending and it cutting back to the studio where Evans bellows "THAT WAS GREAT!"

WRONG.

US Top Gear was better than this. Yeah, work that shit out.

Are you being sarcastic? Fargo was, without a doubt, fucking awful.

You couldn't pay me to watch the second season.

Re: Top Gear

Why was that scene bullshit. Seriously, what's wrong with you. I mean yeah, it's bullshit if you were watching it through a camcorder like this video, when there's a clearly decent HD one linked next to it.

Stop being mental.

Re: Top Gear

The quality of the video has nothing to do with it's shittiness. That was such a cop-out - it was unbelievable, unrealistic and it was clearly a CG magic-fix-all for a ton of plotholes and production budget overruns. The show was/is horseshit and Billy Bob Thornton can billybob my asshole.

Re: Top Gear

Fargo season 1 (never saw season 2) was some of the worst written, downright stupid and annoying straight to Netflix bullshit I've ever seen.

The new Top Gear was terrible, but I'd rather watch it 10 times than watch Fargo season 1 again, where literally anything is possible as long as it's convenient for the plot, no matter how little sense it makes.

...Oh, okay, that's me told then.

"Straight to Netflix" really isn't quite the insult you think it is, mind. Er, Adam Sandler excluded.

Re: Top Gear

I dunno, I got reeeeaaaaalllllyyyy tired of all of that Jenji Kohan bullshit after like a season and a half. Both with Weeds and Orange is the New Black.

Bloodlines could have been excellent if they'd cut 30min of filler out of every ep.

'Making a Murderer' was better on Dateline in 120min than it ever could have been as a TWELVE HOUR LONG FLUFFER-NUTTER of filler.

Kimmy Schmidt and Brown-Girl-From-The-Office just flat sucked.

Don't get me wrong - some Netflix originals have been alright. House of Cards was damned-close to perfect for two seasons, then slipped off into unbelievable absurdity. I've really enjoyed the full 35mm wide-angle release of Malcolm in the Middle. New Arrested Development was, while not perfect, better than I expected it to be. But Netflix has a LOOOOOOONG way to go before they get to be HBO good (they're barely approaching Showtime now).

Also, Ameer, what's even more embarrassing for Fargo - it's made by FX. Who also make Archer, Always Sunny and People V. OJ. HOW DID THEY DO SO BADLY?!

Re: Top Gear

Eh, different tastes and all that. You're clearly outliers, I don't know anybody who didn't like the Fargo show. I held off watching it for quite a while because I'm such a fan of the movie, but I didn't feel it insulted or ruined that movie, so eh, pass.

AMC's Preacher is my favourite "must see" tv at the minuite. It's a very hard one to explain, but I'd imagine the pair of you would want to tune in anyway, just to laugh at the amazing wacky Texan accents.

It's passing the time until the next season of Ash Vs. Evil Dead anyway.

Re: Top Gear

This year, so far, has been a toss-up between People v. OJ and Better Call Saul for my fav 'must-see'. I'm eagerly awaiting True Detective S3, but for whatever reason S2 did poorly in ratings so I think it's on hiatus sad

This season's Archer has been better than the last two, but it's not fantastic like the first three seasons were. Bob's Burgers has been consistently good. Always Sunny both this season and last have been as close to 'perfect' as possible - that show has aged tremendously well.

Looking forward to Rick and Morty and South Park for the fall slump. I've also really been missing the Soup. Right now Dateline and American Greed are the only weekly serials I watch.

Re: Top Gear

I am looking forward to the new Star Trek show that's coming next year, but I've got a horrible dread feeling in my gut that it's not going to be the show I want. What I want is an optimistic weekly adventure where they visit a planet, stuff happens, then they move off to a new adventure next week. Something where you can throw a random episode on and be immediately up to speed.

I have an inkling it's going to be some season long, grimdark, plot arc bullshit that's heavily dependant on the history of the show and is going to insist I stay invested in a single story over roughly twelve or thirteen episodes. I'm tiring of that kind of tv pretty quickly, I think.

I don't trust them not to overcomplicate a simple fucking premise.

Preacher is quite an odd show, but then, so is the comic series.

Re: Top Gear

Preacher. And good grief, seriously, you've got to watch it for just how probably-not-accurate it is. Based on a comic by an Irish guy, starring three brits (the female member of the trio goes full-retard on the accent), adapted very loosely by Seth Rogan and chums for the TV. Gorgeous looking show though and I'm enjoying the hell out of it, but in the back of my head I'm thinking "Christ, John and Ameer would probably have a field day with this."

The very first scene is somebody exploding in a church, which is the best.

Well, I don't see how you failed to miss the sarcasm, unless you guys really do have a yearly snuff film festival.

Or maybe you just can't see the screenshots. Er.

Re: Top Gear

My computer screen is dim @ work and I didn't see the snuff film gag. And I thought you were serious about the documentary because why else would HOUSTON be written so big? Looks like a title to me? Anyway whatevs will still give it a looksie.

IMDB says it's based in Annville (which doesn't exist in Texas) - so did they just go to Houston for an episode or something?

Re: Top Gear

The show's got a habit of letting you know the location at all times via the GIANT CAPTION accompanied by booming sound effect. Which immediately gets things off to a hilarious start, since the very first shot of the series is of a star field. "OUTER SPACE". Thanks for that!

Top Gear's still shit.
