caliper motherfuckers!

2690F.gif

They want me to shell out 500€ for my car because it needs a new pair of these red caliper assembly bit thingies, if it's not fixed it won't pass the regular testing and i cant extend registration.

And the worst bit.. it's already ordered, can't even find cheaper used ones now.

But at least handbrake will work again, not that i really need it tho..

But still 500€ for a pair of these? these ain't diesel turbos or fuel injector for fucks sake!  does mazda make these using GOLD?!

Wow, that's pretty harsh, I never heard of someone having to replace the caliper assembly, usually it's just brake pads or rotors having to be replaced. Did they tell you what's wrong with the old calipers?

Rear brake pads were replaced half a year ago, and the caliper problem started later. The car's almost got 240000 on the counter (for a 6 year old that's a lot no? )

Basically they said it's likely a broken seal and corrosion in the pressure cylinder that moves the caliper' pads towards the disc, the right rear brake is totally gone since not even the foot brake works, other one is half dead, but must also be replaced since otherwise the car would break in a weird way, i've been in the workshop and witnessed the brake test and the brake inspection.

I guess it failed due to a unknown factor, but i will definetly take old calipers with me to see what was wrong with them once they get them replaced.

Also i don't drive like a crazy person to have destroyed the brakes, the car is in good shape and front brakes are fine, but i did i have to replace the alternator diode electronics a bit under a year ago.

I guess now it's starting..  anyone wants to do bets on what will break next year?

Re: caliper motherfuckers!

Yeah but like i said new ones are already ordered, i need to do this all before 8th or car's license plates expire.. I cannot rebuild old ones because everyone is so drunk around new years and everything is closed, the few people who rebuild them are self employed and take a whole month off in january hmm

Re: caliper motherfuckers!

though in all good sense, if you're going to teach yourself car maintenance I'd suggest the brakes are not the best place to start.. possibly something a little less vital like a cup holder?
